Motorola RAZR2 V8 - Review
So today, we will be looking at Motorola’s upcoming replacement so they’re now aging Motorola RAZR, the RAZR 2 V8. This measures 2 millimeters center but it’s 5 millimeters taller than the original RAZR. Width has not changed however. This clamshell weighs at a 117 grams up 22 grams from the original RAZR due to all of the features that have been added. There are too many buttons on the outside. At the very top on left hand side, you will notice the volume rocker and the camera button as well as the accept key. Just below that is the proprietary USB cable from Motorola which lets you connect to the charger, to computer or your headphones. And the speaker of the RAZR2 is located at the very bottom as well as with the original RAZR.
The front is made up of very high glossy material which surprisingly hides fingerprints very well and also houses the 2 inch 256,000 colored TFT screen. When the phone is opened, this will prevail much of the functionality. There is a 2.2-inch screen with 256,000 colors provided. The keypad is made up with the same high glossy materials. The original RAZR has the same layout.
The home screen provides plenty of information: the battery, the signal indicator, the Bluetooth indicator are all at the very top. Right below that is a banner for the service that you are using and the date right below that. In the very center we have the shortcuts or direction that’s on the keypad and below that we have the time and the main menu and the option. The main menu is now organized in a 3X3 grid layout with eight icons so far. All these icons are animated and provide a very simple and readable interface.
The phone is very easy to read and displays all of your contact. On the top, you have the name with the number right below it. When adding a new contact, you have plenty of choices to choose from. You have the first name, the last name and number, number type and then you have the options repeat themselves over. Next, you’ll have the address of what you can add I mean the address, cities, state, country, ZIP code. After that, you can assign a picture to each contacts so that they will be easily recognized about when they call. You have a special ringtones that can be assign as well as message alert tones for each caller. Lastly, you have any notes that can be added just incase you want to remember something about them.
Here, you have the calendar, as like mostly of the other phones you have the option to view within the day, month or week. When changing those settings of the calendar you have many different options which you can choose. You can choose when the week begins, how many days of the week there are, default day view, the default week view as long as many others has a—
The media player is very basic and simple to use. You will notice that at the bottom there is a display for the shortcuts and the directional pad. When the phone is close, the media player would display on the front. There are touch sensitive buttons located on the screen at the very bottom which give a slight vibration for a few text so that the user doesn’t second guess whether he or she press the button.
The camera on the RAZR2 is a 2 megapixel camera with a maximum resolution of 1200X1600. There is sadly has no flash and no mirror within the camera and despite the large screen on the front you can’t take any pictures with the screen close. The most that you can do is take it with the open and then hope you have a good reflection when taking the video. The RAZR2 still has very big shoes to fill as with the success of the original RAZR. Only time will time if this one will be just like successful is not more than the original RAZR.
