This is phone arenas video review of the Motorola arrival A455 available through Verizon Wireless. The rival is a mid level messaging device meant to compete with the ND3 and Alias 2. It features a sliding QWERTY keyboard design, two mega pixel camera, 3.5 millimeter head set jack and a 2.2 inch display.
Parts of the display are touch sensitive and used to dial phone numbers that you still have to use the D pad for menu navigation. There are three themes that are included, urban, white and ice cream, you can also change this main menu settings and change the layout between grid, tab and list of use. There are a total of four rows on the keyboard, the top three contain letters numbers and symbols and the bottom row contains the center space key and special function keys. There are different hypes and the small size of the keys, we found our thumbs feeling a bit cramped after a while. Because of this, we prefer the layout of the NB3 keyboard for typing longer messages but larger hands will feel more comfortable with the NV Touch.
The phones reception was quite good as we had two, three signal bars and never dropped a call but the call quality was lacking as it didn’t sound as clear as when using the NV3 NV Touch or Alias 2. Ultimately the Motorola rival doesn’t really ride with the competition. Other messaging phones such as the NV3, NV Touch and Alias 2 all have better keyboards offer more features and have a better camera.
The only group we can only see going for this device is the under 18 crowd, mostly because of the colors that are used. Please visit phonearena.com for our full review of the Motorola Rival including pictures and 360 degree rotational views.
