Hi, I am Steve Turano. Welcome to this episode of Body Performance. Today, I will talk about muscle loss through out your lifetime. During your lifetime you will lose about 4% of your total lost mass per decade between the ages of 25 and 50. After the age of 50, you will lose about 10% of your muscle mass per decade. What is all that stuff mean? It means this, that during your lifetime you will lose about fifteen pounds of muscle simply because you have not used that. They will atrophy and get small. This is on a good thing especially when we are talking about weight loss. We want as much muscle on our bodies possible and we want to use that muscle because muscle burns calories.
It consumes food. Another thought is you will lose as much muscle on your body later on in life because it makes life easier. Picking up your grand child, throwing the garbage, mowing the yard also it makes doing the things you enjoy much easier and much safer. Biking, swimming, Tennis, Softball, Golf with a good weight training program, you will be able to do these things later on in life. So, everybody, I do not care what age you are should engage in some type of resistance training. Get qualified personal trainer and incorporate weight training in your life three times a week. At the age of 80, you should be breaking hip because you fell off from a mountain bike not because your weight got the mail. I will see you next time. Love your body.
