Host: What should I do if I make a mistake while singing?
Jennifer Rutherford: Well I guess whatever you do, don't stop because then it’ll be really obvious that you’ve made a mistake. But sometimes you can actually make a mistake work for you. If you’ve forgotten to take a breathe and you’ve run out of air, next time you take the breath, make it look like it was intentional, like it was a dramatic intention to the breath, so that it just sounds as if you are trying to communicate an emotion through that breathing. And the same thing with the words, if you forget a word, hopefully, you can just fudge over and the audience won't even notice. But if it gets really serious and you have to resort to loves, smile and just go with it, make a little scat singing out of it and hopefully it’ll become a new rendition of whatever song it was that you were doing.
