Must Eat Spring Foods
Drew Ordon: The organ it sets in your right upper quadrant, might here, here’s a normal peeling. Liver is so important, why? It’s the key detoxifier of your body. It literally detoxifies everything. It’s the key metabolic organ in you're body. Protein synthesis metabolizes everything that we eat. You want to be nice to your liver you don’t want your liver end up looking like this. We came up with a great tip. Actually, dandelions are good for your liver either sprinkles a little in your salad or dandelion tea to load in vitamins and it actually increases bile production which shall takes place in the liver.
Jim Sears: Alright, that’s pretty neat. So those of you buy those in but I think the grocery and not pick them after your lounge right?
Lisa Masterson: Right.
Drew Ordon: No, I did not. It’s been washed.
Jim Sears: Because you don’t want to get – it’s full of pesticide.
Drew Ordon: But they have a nice taste though. Would like a little dandelion on your kidney?
Jim Sears: On my kidney? Sure.
Drew Ordon: I know.
Jim Sears: But now the kidneys and now, moving from the liver to the kidney. Kidneys are also really important because they keep your blood clean by removing waste and excess water in creating in urine you know. It’s kind of one of – it’s another detoxifier of the body so it’s really --
Travis Storks: Basically, your liver and your kidney are the two main organs.
Jim Sears: Like filters.
Travis Storks: That we use or detoxified but breakdown things that we need to get out of our body.
Jim Sears: And breakdown the waste and get rid of it. And actually ginger is a great thing for your kidneys because it’s kind of natural diuretic some people say so, it kind of helps flush out that excess water and helps your body remove the toxins.
Drew Ordon: Really.
Jim Sears: What I really like ginger for is -- its an anti-inflammatory so it helps reduce inflammation which is one of the triggers of allowing illnesses so ginger is good for you.
Travis Storks: Because the diuretic does not necessarily mean --.
Jim Sears: Yeah, right. Just because it is diuretic that mean because alcohol is a diuretic too.
Travis Storks: Right, so you like ginger for nausea and other things but –.
Jim Sears: Right, the anti-inflammatory.
Travis Storks: There you go.
Lisa Masterson: And I love this because I’ve got the brain. The brain is the center of command and it controls all the other organs in the body and it’s responsible for the memory and intelligence and actually I did my senior thesis on the brain in college.
Travis Storks: Yeah.
Female: Wow.
Lisa Masterson: Yeah, so I know a lot about brain. To make the brain function really well, you need brain food. And blueberries are excellent brain food because they have a lot of antioxidants in them. So they – per serving they have the most antioxidants because the anthocyanins which actually give it that blue color. So I think maybe you need a few more of blueberries.
Travis Storks: What’s interesting, you know what? And I’m going to back you up, not only is a good brain food, it’s good kidney food, it’s good liver food. That’s just good food all the way around but we all know --.
Jim Sears: I’ll tell you what it’s called the brain berry.
Travis Storks: It is called the brain berry.
Lisa Masterson: Brain berry, yeah.
Travis Storks: You know what it’s even good for your heart. I got the heart here and I got to tell you the heart in my opinion play the most important organ because without this nothing else gets nutrients, nothing else gets oxygen. So the heart literally pumps blood nutrients to every important organ in your body so part of healthy food is very important, salmon loaded with omega 3 fatty acids which even though they have the word fat in them, it’s good fats. It actually helps prevent heart disease so adding salmon, the American Heart Association says a couple of servings a week, can keep you heart healthy.
Lisa Masterson: And you actually eat a couple servings of salmon a week.
Travis Storks: I do. But Liz, we’ve got a whole -- good foods of this.
Lisa Masterson: Yeah.
Travis Storks: We got more tips to get it get focused.
Lisa Masterson: Well, it’s spring so we want to think green, right? Okay and avocados are great for our skin. They have potassium and a number of vitamins. They’re going to give us a youthful glow. Spinach, can’t get enough spinach, it’s wonderful for your eyes. It can protect you from macular degeneration and then broccoli. We all need another excuse to eat more broccoli, right? Well, this is good for our hair. It actually helps enhance the production of sebum which makes our hair glossy and shiny and who doesn’t want that.
Travis Storks: Yeah. Fantastic. I’ll tell you anything on that card over there is good for your health. That is absolutely beautiful. Couple of things flax seed, believe it or not, also loaded with omega 3 fatty acids as well as proteins great for your heart. What else is up there, jalapeños? You know, it has sometime called “Capsaicin” in it. I actually have trouble with jalapenos. I’ve seen see you two go head to head and you’re tough with that.
Lisa Masterson: I love that hot stuff.
Travis Storks: It may clear up some mucus, sinusitis type symptoms for people who have those issues. Celery is also great because what celery does is it only cleans your teeth. It can help prevent bad breath by increasing saliva flow and it’s healthy. And last but not the least you want to know the one thing that’s necessary to make all of these happen all of this grow?
Crowd: Yes.
Travis Storks: Sunshine!
Jim Sears: Sunshine.
Travis Storks: So sunshine. Sunshine is food for these plants and getting many ten minutes every other day on your arms and legs that helps good as vitamin D.
Female: Gets you a vitamin D.
Lisa Masterson: Yeah, booster mood too.
Female: Yeah.
Drew Ordon: But there is sunscreen, sun protection.
Female: That’s right.
Travis Storks: So what is the one common thing up here, it’s this. There are no processed foods up here. These are all natural foods. Natural foods are good for our organs, all of them.
