Go to any youth baseball game across America, eight years old to 12 years old, and you heard parents and sometimes even coaches, yelling things to their infielders. A lot of times you will hear, get in front of the ball and I understand why they are yelling get in front of the ball because you want your infielder slide and not be afraid of the ball and come and field the ball.

But what I say is that is actually a myth because you want to teach your infielders to get to the side so that they can view the ball, dimensionally, looking at the ball from this side, you will see the three dimensions of the ball moving. Instead of seeing a ball hit right at you, it much difficult to judge how you are going to field the ball if it is hit right at you so what I teach my infielders is to get out to the right and come back to the ball this way so that they can see the ball bouncing and read the hops and figure out where they need to be when the field the ball. So do not always take that advice e of get in front of the ball to heart.
