Another myth of infieldings you hear shouted all the time on little league fields, is get your glove down. I have seen coaches even teach or parents teach kids to start like this. I think this is a mistake. I do not think you want to teach your kids to have the glove on the ground. You want to teach them to have movement when the pitch is delivered.
But their glove does not want to go down until they are completely in a position to pick the ground ball. So oftentimes, you will hear guys come up and say get you glove down and the boy or girl gets into the spot and their glove is down and everything is great but the problem is the ball is still out here.
They are in a position too soon. In which case, they have to lift their glove again and their body is in a position to make the play. I would never teach my infielders to get their glove down until they are in complete position to pick the ground ball and it is here, they are coming through, then the glove goes down. I think what you want to teach them is to be when the pitch is delivered, have momentum. Some teams like to have little jumps. Some teams like to have both players come up onto the balls of their feet. Any way you teach that but do not tell them get your glove down before their body is in a position to pick the ball.
