If you put a 1 5/8" drywall screw 3" above and below the nail dimple (like you should), you don't need to put a nail back in. The Drywall Association recommends this process.

You need to put the nail BACK in... he doesn't show that or even mention it. It looks like he just pulls the nail and smooths over it w/drywall paste. You NEED to replace the nail or else (if you keep pulling the nails) the drywall will eventually loosen from the studs and fall off.
