We know that you have your hands full with tiny tearaway and don't have as much time to spend on your hair and makeup that you used to. That's where we come in. Gary France is a top stylist with hairdresser Toni and Guy. He will get to work on your hair and I am a professional makeup artist. I can make you beautiful.
Meet Deborah Hastie. In the morning she only has time to spent two minutes on her makeup, her favorite makeup product is lipstick and she hates her thin lips. Deborah welcome to Mummy Makeover.
Sarah Jagger: Hi Deborah!
Deborah Hastie: Hi Sarah.
Sarah Jagger: Deborah, tell me about yourself.
Deborah Hastie: I am 35 years old. I have got two children Max and Eve they are 3 and 1. I am married to Adam, sister and as well as looking up the children. I work 3 days a week in a PR agency mundane. So, pretty busy most of the time.
Sarah Jagger: Now you are here for a makeover. What would you like to take away with you today from the makeover?
Deborah Hastie: I would like to get some tips really on how to make yourself look better and with the time available because time is, specially time as I am free. And I feel it is all -- I am trying to look as same, but you feel there is none of your movement nothing else. It would be nice to sort of reclaim that we are back again a little late and maybe able I will take the ages quite back kind of slipped for the past couple of years as well so that would be great.
Sarah Jagger: And what kind of makeup did Deborah wear before kids?
Deborah Hastie: Minimum, absolutely minimum and probably the same makeup that I wore ten years ago, I have not been very adventurous and I go for the muted colors things are pretty safe and it would be nice to take away some tips and maybe something new that can sort of take me forward as well. Bronze lipstick is main stable makeup I wear day in, day out and all the night time I wear a little bit of mascara and a little bit of mousses but nothing too outrageous I am afraid.
Sarah Jagger: And what about your hair? What do you do with your hair?
Deborah Hastie: Again it has got be practical and I still got to be able to maintain it. I do wear it down for work, but I tie it back when I am with the children. So I would like to keep a little bit of length that maybe out dated have it look a little bit different too everyday for that same street, all day out and maybe a little bit change in color as well that's going to hold long time.
Sarah Jagger: Okay I am going to introduce you to Gary to talk more about your hair and then I will do your makeup.
Deborah Hastie: Okay let's go.
Sarah Jagger: Deborah meet Gary.
Deborah Hastie: Hi!
Gary France: Hi Deborah! Please to meet you. Come on have a sit.
Sarah Jagger: Now you can talk to Gary all about hair.
Gary France: See you later. Okay can we see here working mother of two children I believe?
Deborah Hastie: That's right, 3 year old and 1 year old. Pretty busy.
Gary France: It must be very tough. I have two children so I know exactly what it is like. And okay let's talk of hair then. You are into PR I believe; that's your profession.
Deborah Hastie: Yeah, that's what I am doing.
Gary France: You need to be presentable and professional looking and everything. So how do you feel about the shape right now? Do you feel have you been growing it out?
Deborah Hastie: I have been growing it down and I have probably taken it as far as I want to and I realize now that I need a little bit more shape, a little bit more texture to see my face and so anything you can do to kind of send me around the --
Gary France: Okay, yeah no problem. I think it might be quite nice if we take some of this shape around your face a little shorter, maybe bring this length up to kind of the jaw line here, that would be quite nice. That still keeps a longer length around here, maybe slightly shorter through the back that keep it very soft and very broken out so you can wear it quite loose and if you want to blow dry that through you get some nice texture and separation through that. But assume you can want to cover up the natural highlights you have got there, the gray areas and I think what we today which should be really good for you. It is just to do what we call a natural glossing and all the hairs where we go from the root through the ends and just put a really nice simple tone and all the way through and it just brings out a lot of shine.
Sarah Jagger: So the first stop is with Toni and Guy color experts there Sara Alexander (ph). She has mixed a proportion that will cover up the grays and mid shaft of her head. After the dye has worked its magic; a quick wash and then back to Gary for cut. He is creating some layers on the back side and performing surgery on the Deborah's out of control fling. A quick blow dry and the hairdo is complete. Deborah this is quite different for you.
Deborah Hastie: It certainly is. Yeah I love it. I think it's absolutely great.
Sarah Jagger: You love it.
Deborah Hastie: Great color and everything.
Sarah Jagger: Gary, tell me what you have done.
Gary France: Well the main thing with Deborah's hair today was to even out the color. We did that first, so we wanted to just get one tone all the way through and then bring the shine back. What we then did was to go through, reduce a lot of weight of back hair and really bring some of the natural movement after that. I worked with layering leaving it just slightly longer towards this front area where she took the fringe back and just cut it very simple, very classically plunged to the fringe, just resting on the eyebrow and then widened it a little bit. So we took -- pull out the bends of the hair and soften it through here. So she could wear that forward or tuck it behind these and it sits really nice on her.
Sarah Jagger: And it really does frame your face. Well Deborah let's get you into the makeup chair. Deborah to complement this beautiful kind of chocolate tone that you have got going through your hair now, I thought it would be nice to use some plumy raspberry red; kind of like what you have used in your top here. Very green eyes, plums are the opposites of green, so it really makes the green stand out in your eyes. Now your skin is a little bit on the dry side. So I am going to use a foundation that is quite light reflecting to really give moisture and the illusion of hydration to the skin. Now I am using a sponge because I really want to make sure that we are using as little foundation as possible.
I am using concealer on the inner corner of the eye and on the outer corner of the eye. Now of course any tiny blemishes -- I always find it easier to use a brush. Ideally you only want to use powder where you have used concealer, just to stop it from slipping. You don't have an overly shinny skin, so you don't need to go matte with the powder. This eye-lasher has a tiny bit of shimmer through it, I say shimmer not glitter because shimmer is actually quite neutral when it is on, makes your skin glow rather than looking like you are going to a disco.
Imagine that anything that you want to bring forward like your eyelid is what I want to bring forward, you keep pale; anything you want to receive, you keep dark. I always think it is nice to have a bit of eye liner around the lashes if you go quite a heavy fringe; okay that's so much of it. Now your lashes actually do stay fairly straight naturally, don't they?
Deborah Hastie: Yeah.
Sarah Jagger: And this is perfect for you. Again I think to balance the fullness of your fringe; I think you need pretty fat lashes. I am using a cream blush, this looks quite dark in color, but because it is so shear in texture, it is just going to give you a hint of a flash. And we will blend it down with translucent powder. By highlighting the top of your lips what you do is you actually enhance the natural shape of your upper lip. Lip liner is great to even out the lips. As soon as it looks obvious, it ages the face. Let's finish with this every so slightly shimmering raspberry color. That's it.
Now Deborah when you came in this morning this is what you looked like and this is you are now. What do you think?
Deborah Hastie: It is a transformation, I think it is fantastic.
Sarah Jagger: Do you think it is something you can keep up everyday?
Deborah Hastie: Certainly not everyday I can certainly take a lot what you have given me, but I like to try and create this for late night hour definitely.
Sarah Jagger: Great.
