This is Phone Arena’s video review of the N73.one of the Nokia’s High end multi media devices where you can see the Symbian’s S60 interface. What you noticed immediately is the bright QVGA display which occupies most of the keen buff on side. And it’s much bigger compared to the one the N70 which is the predecessor of the N73. It has only 176 by 208 pixels. Thanks to a white sensor, it brightens up to the perfectly seen in direct sunlight. And turn offs the keypad back light to save some battery power.
The colors are 262000 and very saturated but the pictures are small in size and the previous image is detailed and very realistic. Direct environments both the front keys and the ones on the right side are lit in blue. The numeric keys are small for our taste without space between each of them but with good tactile response. The shortcuts on the right of the volume control, the gallery and the camera. The letter is on the back under a nice slide that will gently open with a single push to reveal the lens with Carl Zeiss branded on them. And the LED flash which is strong enough for places with no white glow.
The same goes to opening the slider one thing they’re used on. The whole back pannel produces a slight cracking noise when pressed but other wise the built quality solid and the form of it is nice in the hand with four ounces weight which you can feel when you put in your shirts pocket. In the end, on the top and bottom sides there are stereo speakers for music playback and for the ringing tone.
The home screen has a carrier name and a line of shortcuts just below. You can change the shortcuts to suit your best. Below them is the active bed rock. In this place, to do notes, music that’s currently playing or missed calls or n messages.
It do reminds of pocket PC’s to the screen and when you’ll save some time the contacts are just stated as a list that can be searched and they can also contain numerous details in different types of numbers.
The main menu is three by four grids of icons but they are not animated but can easily change into a list view. You can change the order of the icons as well and move insert icons in the main menu to make it suit your best. The speed of opening the menu is faster than it goes as the E 50 but it’s still followed in some other noise mark ups. Let’s check the camera. The interface is in landscape mode and you have a line of icons on the right.
You can choose a scene or the flash mode and when you half push the shutter key the auto focus that does do its magic. And you have your photo taken. The image quality of the pictures is very good for a phone similar to the rest of the 3.2 mega pixel shooters in the market. Compared through with regular digital camera images, the N73 rocks in every department.
Using the multi media dedicate key on the front you can easily go in the music player. The interface has several more icons to the left that are hard to see. In the music library, you can start the sounds by album, artist, genre, etcetera and we like the play list with most played track option. Unfortunately, we don’t find the sound quality of either the stereo speakers or the provided headphones good enough to be listened to with joy.
If the phone had a 3.5 millimeter stereo jack to use with your headphones, it would have been much better. During a call the volume is loud and the voice can be heard clearly then the sound can be realistic. The comes trend is average but battery should last for two to three days of use without you only taking pictures and listening to music.
In conclusion the Nokia N73 is able to be your own multimedia device with Carl Zeiss 3.2 mega pixel auto focus camera with Carl Zeiss lens. During camera testing, the camera fails a little bit short in or expectations. Even though the image quality is very similar to the Sony Ericsson K800 for example it is still not comparable with regular digital camera.
On the other hand the display is just gorgeous showing crystal clear and sharp images and text. Combined with Symbian operating system and S60 user interface the N73 is one of the best multimedia phones currently in the market.
