This is Phone Arena’s video review of the Nokia N800 Internet Tablet. This is the second Nokia Linux Tablet and this one is part of the N-Series, meaning it is also a multimedia targeted device. With the related—size, it is used with two hands only and navigated through either the big 800x480 pixel display or using the navigation keys on the left.
Here, also the speakers which are—but do not have high quality. The microphone together with the zoom keys are on the upper side so you can put the phone on the table using it stand and still have voice conversation. On the right side are the connectors in putting the charger socket, the 3.5 millimeter jack for headphones and the—connection to a computer. Here is also the slide for the stylus which is more comfortable than the one in the previous model 770. On the other side is one of the improvements over the predecessor, the built-in camera for video conversation. The screen resolution is very good for browsing the internet or for reading as well as for viewing pictures or videos. Here is our phonearena.com page in full screen mode where we can easily read our latest info on mobile phones.
The home screen of the device houses active links. You could personalize system information on the top and menu links on the left. You can choose the menu for messaging which has a Google chat and the E-mail or the multimedia. Let us check the E-mail. It is configured after a few clicks. And now we can easily write a new E-mail, tap on the screen with stylus for smaller keypad or with your finger for a large one which we prefer—the Tablet has Google Talk but you can use other messengers like Gizmo which is also a Voice Over IP application, Later this year, Skype should also be available for this platform. You can listen to music, store them in 800 memory or via internet radio or FM radio. The latter is not coming pre installed but the tablet has all the hardware you need and the structure can be downloaded from the—website.
Watching video is a great experience. We installed a cool application called Canoa which adds graphic interface with a multimedia player. Although the tablet is not meant for work as it does not have any real organizers straight out of the box, one can be added. We installed third party GPE Team manager and decent contact system, a calendar and To-Do Manager. Unfortunately, they cannot be synchronized with a PC computer but probably future versions would be able to do this. Overall, if you are looking for a full sized 800 pixel display device for browsing the internet to a wireless LAN or to your phones’ connection, the N800 is definitely a lovely option. It has very good display, enough operating memory and fast enough processor. N800 can store eight or more gigabytes of multimedia and two SD cards and can extend its functionality, thanks to the open source code of the Linux apps. Its drawbacks are the only three hours of usage time and the lack of Bluetooth support which makes listening to stereo music or using BT hands free impossible.
