This is one of Arena’s video reviews of the Nokia top of the smart phone the N95. Being part of the N-series it’s a multimedia device covering both camera and music video it’s also a very advance smart phone. Although it has lots of features the size is similar to a common camera phone and the slider design makes it easy fit in the pocket.
Slide it up to open the keypad which is small but very usable. Slide it down and will reveal the multimedia keyboard which consist of four plus shortcuts. And this mode the display goes in landscape orientation and you should hold the phone horizontally.
On the right are the other dedicated keys including the camera two shutter buttons, the gallery shortcut and the volume rocker, which is use for digital zoom. They are all illuminated to in blue when the camera mode is open. By default it has protective cover to protect the auto focus car like lens. So I need to open to activate the camera, as you can see from the branding it’s a five mega pixel unit and for a flash use a large AVG which is not as good as a real Xenon but is one of the brightest AVG you’ve seen in the camera.
On the left side there are no keys but you will find the 3.5 millimeter stereo jack. You can put headphones or the wide remote control to it. Below it is the Micro SD memory slot. On the bottom is the mini USB port for cable connection and the charger port.
The front houses of 2.6 inch QVG display with the light sensor and the additional camera for below calling about it. The sensors have full some battery savings but still you would probably hardly use the phone for more day and day on the single charge. The sensor controls both the key backlight and the display brightness so it won't be very bright in dark conditions but will perfectly readable in strong sunlight.
Overall we are very satisfied with the N95 construction quality. It has excellent size for such feature widget devices. It is built with quality materials and offers smooth sliding mechanism and support of keypad. Being the smart phone N95 phone will seem be an S60 operating system and so as software is similar to the one that other Nokia smart phones such as N73 and N93 for example.
The active home screen shows you fort information and gives you shortcut to often use applications. The main menu just state is 3 x 4 or 4 x 3 grade of icons as the interface of the phone can be use in landscape mode in vision with the portrait or imitation. Just open the multimedia slider and you will navigate landscape.
The contacts are just state is the list that can be search and they can contain numerous details by different types of numbers for example. You can add as much fields as you want and the contacts can have five mobile numbers for example. Let's check the camera which is one of the key features of the N95 as it is five mega pixels.
The interface is in the landscape mode and you have a wind up icons on the right. You can choose the scene or the flash mode and when half push the shutter key the outer focus engages and after a few seconds the image is taken. Pushing the camcorder remote and you'll be able to shoot videos with VGA which is 640 x 480 pixels at 30 frames which is above TV quality. And of course this is in excellent result for smart phone.
The overall performance of the camera is excellent and most conditions it can substitute most consumer digital cameras. The only conditions where it to rank far behind our can as the 630 is during very well wide chops enclose proximity for about ten feet whether seen on flash shows it’s definite advantages over the AVG1.
For camera and video samples go to our webpage Phonearena.com, using the multimedia dedicated key on the front all moving the slider to the multimedia position you open an animated manual with multimedia features. Here you can easily start the music player which is new and better compare to the one N73.
You can still sort by album artist from general and create play list but they are now playing interface is more comfortable than before. The sound quality from the speaker is one of the best among all cell phones with that it. In addition the 3.5 millimeter stereo jack allows you to use your own headphones.
The map applications helps you navigate all over the world through the phones built in GPS receiver. The software in maps from more than 150 countries is absolutely free. You can easily see places of interest new you and navigate to them or navigate to an address. The term by term navigation is not free you have to buy it as an extra as well as our the city guys which have a lot s of points of interest information for each separates city.
Surfing the net on the N95 is also a pleasure as it has full HTML browser which we think is the best one currently installed in any phone. You can easily read Phone Arenas webpage or type the RSS radius address for faster access to the latest information. As other high end Nokia phones the quality of the sound during a call is very good with clear and realistic voices as volume above average in both directions.
The signal strength is great passing out test with eight out ten. Overall the N95 became one of our favorite devices because everything but the QWERTY keyboard. In the small body the phone packs very good display in keyboard a lot of functionality and probably the best camera currently in the market that we've tested a five mega pixel unit without a focus.
In the multimedia part we should know the excellent sound the phones speakers and the 3.5 millimeter jack that the wire should to connect any headphones or even active stereo system without troubles. The GPS navigation should have MMS as well.
We recommend that N95 to anyone who of highly capable smart phone or multimedia device as it is one of the best all in one phones currently on the market.
