Sarah: Welcome to another Diet high five Friday where the truth you do not know will hurt you.
Sarah: Hi Everyone! Welcome to Diet.com video, I am your host Sarah, last time we showed you guys the top five reasons why you are not going to lose weight this year. Number one, was you are still eating too many calories. Today’s video, we are going to take number one a little bit further, and investigate whether or not nutrition facts on the side of the boxes are accurate.
We are going to take how many grams, the nutrition facts, the label says are in one serving. Now, if it is a single serving like this then they should be accurate, obviously with something like the Trail mix, you are going to have to measure it out your self to see exactly what a single serving is.
So, with that said, let us get started. The first product that we are going to way today is one of my favorite breakfasts to have. It is from Trigger Joes, their Apple cranberry muffins.
On the box it says that they are 80 calories for 57 grams, does this actually weigh 57 grams? Let us find out. Now, according to our scale, this weighs 74 grams, so if we do a little bit of math, we can quickly figure out how much this muffin actually is. And it is actually a 104 calories, so it is honestly not that big of a deal if you are eating 80 or a hundred, but there you go.
Next, we are going to nature, very on a hundred calorie pack, which is an apple, this weighs a 187 grams, and it is 97 calories, so that is a lot of volume of big weight for not a calories at all, so can always count on a apple being a great snack that is under a hundred calories.
Next, we are going to be investigating Trail mix. Most people, I am sure, do not measure out Trail mix, they just hid it at the back, but for today’s segment purpose, we are going to measure out what they say a serving is. I put it what I thought was that a quarter of a cup, but actually it says the weight is 166 grams minus what this was, so that is like 55 grams. A serving is actually only 30 grams, so you think that you are eating a quarter cup and it is one serving but it is actually not.
This is how much 30 grams of the Trail mix that we got so this is a single serving, this is 130 calories. Trail mix is hard to measure so if you have a scale, use that over just the measuring cup.
Next, we have Biggles, typically, if I put this on the scale and punch in the number of corresponds to Biggles, it is actually, it will come up to be about 175 calories. How ever, these are special Biggles, I found them in the super market, they are by a women who actually lost a lot of weight, and left Biggles, and could not find any, she could actually eat after her weight loss, so she went out and created her own brand.

On the nutrition facts, they said there is only a 110 calories for every 57 grams. This one is 62 grams let us measure some other ones. This one is 63, oh this is not 65, 62. So woman, little miss I am on a diet, I am going to make yummy Biggles for people. This is actually.
So, instead of 110 calories this Biggles is actually 127, so there are now 12, 15, or 17. I am great at Math.
Lastly, we are going to investigate one of the culprits of the 100-calorie pack craves, Hostess 100 calorie packs. This is carrot cake with cream cheese icing and creamy filling. They say that a package of this is supposed to be 34 grams. Now, I already weighed out this on little paper, and it is too, but it is actually 49 grams, so that is a huge differences especially when you are claiming to be a hundred calories, and that actually could be false advertisement, if probably does fall in the 20 percent margin that they have to be accurate with in.
But let us check it out anyway. So this a little hundred calorie pack of Hostess, little carrot cakes is not a hundred calories, but it is actually a 138, so you are actually consuming an extra 38 calories there, and just with this little snacks, we almost have totaled a hundred calories.
If you are trying to lose weight, it is a good idea to write down everything that you eat. However, given today’s experiment, it is really common to be at least 20 percent off. If your diet consist of 2000 calories, you cold be eating anywhere between 1800 and 2200 calories. Now, if you are on the high end of the scale, and you consume this extra 200 calories and you do not really know it, you could gain 22 pounds in a year.
I hate that statistic only because people say if you cut out soda out of your diet, you will lose 10 pounds in a year. I do not think that is going to happen because I am probably going to go in and have something else, since I did not have that soda. But with our little experiment, you actually do not even know that you are eating these additional 200 calories, so it is not really even affecting mind set at all, it is totally hidden in the radar.
So, basically these skeptical of nutrition facts, and one in doubt measure or you can weigh them, and if you are really skeptical. You could go the rout at like someone in called out Doctor Pragers and pirates booty, and they actually were busted by the FDA for having inaccurate nutrition facts on their products. So hope you guys liked this segment. If you have any food products that you are skeptical are lying our lying on the nutrition labels, send them in to us, let us know, and hopefully cannot get to the bottom of it so see you next time.
