Dr. Su Laurent: Hello, I'm Su Laurent. I'm a consultant pediatrician and medical advisor to the baby channel. We've come today to Viveka to witness and interview between a nutritionist and a patient. Let's talk about some of the things that she can do to help pregnancy.
Unknown Doctor: Hi, Su Laurent. How are you?
Patient: I'm great. Thank you really well.
Unknown Doctor: How is --?
Patient: She is great. She is one year old next month.
Unknown Doctor: Of course, she doesn't -- from?
Patient: I know it's amazing that I'm having a great time.
Unknown Doctor: Good. Keep it up.
Patient: And you know it's been a real joy.
Unknown Doctor: Brilliant.
Patient: I love it. I'm looking forward for the next.
Unknown Doctor: So that's why we're here today. Obviously to actually -- bad habits that most of -- last year and sort of recap how you -- minimal health, and then the deficiencies already can wind up and get the time--.
Patient: Okay.
Unknown Doctor: So, we got your blood test results here. Actually, you also --too bad. Alright, good.
Patient: Good.
Unknown Doctor: The Zinc level is just within the normal range, but it's in the lower range of normal. So, I think actually we probably need to do little bit of work with that.
Patient: Alright.
Unknown Doctor: And maybe it's so dedicative fairly had a little bit of -- called
Patient: Yes, I have.
Unknown Doctor: The immune system (Voice Overlap) A little bit of those -- immune system as well , is we can make it sort of try and built that up a little bit more if we can.
Patient: Okay.
Unknown Doctor: I also, I'm going to give you a sheet here, which actually tells you which food that we're (Voice Overlap) maybe supplements we can actually work with the foods that you're eating, just to get itself example pumpkin seeds, you know just how -- and kind of other minerals sort of maybe bringing those back into them use these, back to using this a snack will be wonderful.
Patient: Alright.
Unknown Doctor: So, the permanent level is looking good, so that's fine. Obviously, you've got sugar into balance these days not favor the sweets too much, chewing the chocolates
Patient: No.
Unknown Doctor: But always that's the -- and not lower on the glucose.
Patient: Okay.
Unknown Doctor: The one little multiway and is magnesia that's looking low, and that's very, very common, when people have notice stress. And then running at full pair and running a business, which I want to do (Voice Overlap)
Patient: I mean almost not had being slight stressed recently.
Unknown Doctor: So, what we need to do is lift all our green leafy vegetables. Any thing that is green, any vegetable that is green will have a lot of magnesium in it. Also, if you think about the greens it's also for the folic acid and that's going so to get that. So, I don't know how you have you got lots of greens?
Patient: Well, yeah, I mean -- yes, we do have some, but probably I could have more.
Unknown Doctor: The problem is as if we're quite stressed that we're doing a lot--
Patient: Yeah.
Unknown Doctor: Using up a lot of energy, but actually use most magnesium as well. So --
Patient: And that's interesting, it's quite lower.
Unknown Doctor: This just quite low, but I think we need to build that up, not just to diet, but we maybe look at adding it like an extra supplement for on to that's just to get you really build up.
Patient: Yeah.
Unknown Doctor: Just to get you really (Voice Overlap), and then we got the toxic metal that's lead cadmium, aluminium and mercury and they're all within the acceptable range, so that's fine. So we now got next statement analysis and will actually all the minerals will be actually within the normal range and the zinc level quite high.
Patient: Oh, that's good.
Unknown Doctor: But that isn't very high popular, now trouble with high copper. Yes, it is molecularly very similar to Zinc. So, sometimes when the copper is quite high, couples using the same absorption mechanism and so using the same transport mechanisms and always say, sometimes it can just block on the activity.
Patient: So that is quite high.
Unknown Doctor: So, we can told that about actually in a little bit more Zinc even though the zinc level is okay, try and reduce the component little bit, so again the chromium is fine, its magnesia's within the normal range. But if we get down to the more toxic metals, what we can actually say this is very high level of --. So, I don't know whether he knows, or anything like that actually just put these large sold fish do you know?
Patient: No, we don't need -- fish, but she know so she has lunch may be fish has not possible
Unknown Doctor: Okay that would be interesting. The other thing obviously as fish a lot of things on it, that can sometimes the metric level, but more commonly comes and if you anything else achieve things like that. So, I think what we would like to do is probably bring that down and to do that, you can include into the more the sulphur containing food such as eggs
Patient: Rice.
Unknown Doctor: little bit of egg and things like that. But the minerals are very good for counteracting this mercury selenium. So, actually what I probably like to do is rather than bringing in just individual zinc, what I would like to do is actually going to introduce broad-spectrum antioxidant, which is called the selenium and its called zinc and that's always wonderful Vitamins vitamin A, vitamin c, which actually protect and nourishing some on look better as far as we can.
Patient: Okay.
Unknown Doctor: And what's his dialogue is he eating well? What does he drinking after coffee and tea?
Patient: Looks - doesn't, I think he may have a bit of away but generally he eats not in we always have a very good eating meal.
Unknown Doctor: Good.
Patient: but he does tend to skip breakfast I think.
Unknown Doctor: Not good. That's not so good. (Voice Overlap)
Patient: That's recently; I mean I have to ----
Unknown Doctor: the trouble is when you skip breakfast; the real problem there is that your body is very much publically active at the night. So, if you think about your last meal that you ate 7 or 8 o'clock in the evening. When you get up in the morning, all those good, all that sort of glucose nothing on has been used up actually just -- sorting you know the things that is just having all time during the day and the immune system is running around. So, when you wake up in the morning, you sugar level from the food degree that is all gone. So, I think you can use it up or has been stored or anything like that.
Patient: yeah.
Unknown Doctor: so, when you get up, and then you don't have breakfast, what happens is, the brain leads to replace the function, so if it doesn't get it from breakfast what it'll do is that produce adrenalin because it adrenalin has the capacity to lift your blood sugar levels from the stores.
Patient: right.
Unknown Doctor: either that you really do. So, automatically, you're pushing that, it'll stress the bottom even before you would patted any stress from your daily
Patient: There is nothing --
Unknown Doctor: so, missing breakfast and missing meals is not a good idea for anybody that who wants to get pregnant either from the man or from the women ---
Patient: Okay.
Unknown Doctor: so, you need to bring the breakfast again. And then the other thing I just wanted to talk about is the alcohol.
Patient: Right.
Unknown Doctor: Does the alcohol quite back into the ---?
Patient: Well, I probably since I stopped breast feeding, I mean couple of glasses in the evening at the most beyond on the same.
Unknown Doctor: I think you can just pull that back again until you have down because alcohol unfortunately is sort of it's --- it dissolves in fat and it dissolves in water. So, it's one of these its non-nutrient drink if you like (Voice Overlap) functions the body and rather than getting you actually depletes you, which is especially Zinc. So, I think if you're going to try for second baby given the fat, giving a age and given them with, I think we need to just that you can stop the alcohol.
Patient: So completely --
Unknown Doctor: This is especially important for the elder mother and the elder father because they actual older so it's and whatever was she is over that like development as it travels out from the center of the egg, which is at outside will have influence on whether it's good quality or whether it's been damaged or not.
Patient: Right.
Unknown Doctor: Obviously If you damage the egg or the damage the sperm then it's almost like tearing out a bit of the book of life in on pregnancy of alcohol.
Patient: Okay.
Unknown Doctor: Sorry to say this alcohol, so one thing I think people find most difficult
Patient: For them to adopt this its stressful day, its very relaxing just to said that when you actually start breast feeding and you start your periods to get the waste for two months, so when you're most fertile. Is that true?
Unknown Doctor: I think it can also happen like that, actually a lot of people can see in those first two month.
Patient: Yeah.
Unknown Doctor: First, more importantly even here now to she gets the -- back in track. And how is the breast feeding and love that the way -- is that going well, she is not (Voice Overlap)
Patient: She -- I enjoyed alright -- to really want some --- as I'm trying to as much as I can. If I do by the organic jaws you know, but she has --- I'm enjoying not as she is trying the foods and you know it's going well. (Voice Overlap) nice and now she doesn't go to her office -- both 12 months.
Unknown Doctor: She is taking - from everything like that, that's going to be difficult.
