Shaena: Hi, my name is Shaena. I am from New Jersey and I was wondering that if a woman is pregnant, if it is better to take nutritional supplements or to just eat healthy foods? Dr. Jef Ferguson: Well, Shaena that question has asked by many patients and it's difficult to answer. In a general sense, I think it is best to just eat nutritional foods because we know nutritional food is just the natural vitamins and minerals. Now with supplements the problem is, you don't know what's going into the supplement. It is not regulated by the FDA. We don't know if it's a good compound or a bad compound. So I would very much recommend staying with nature's foods as you attempt to make sure you have good nutrition during pregnancy.
