Henry Anhalt: Certainly what’s most important to keep in mind is that parents in their best desire to help their children need to avoid negative reinforcement don’t do this I told you not to do that, if you do this you know what may happen its important for parents to realize that those kinds of approaches are in particular effective rather in multi disciplinary approach that is the use of exercise, the use of diet, the use of behavior modification. To change childrens behavior and have the whole family participate are key elements in true success. There are a couple of programs that I am aware of one program at my Maimonides Medical Center which I hope found called the kids weight down program and a program here at the Saint Barnabas Medical Center and its body care program called the healthy life program both of these programs excel in that they offer multi disciplinary approaches to children who are over weight, whose families and children require this kind of approach.

Henry Anhalt: I think its important to start with an assessment of a family to get essence of the family dynamic and what they are capable of doing secondly a careful analysis of the childs physical activities in the past and in the present are also important in last thing is and perhaps the most important element is an analysis of an current dietary intake once those three assessments are made and ready in this for change is established the family cans tart their journey towards reengineering their life style towards eating a healthier life style and all of those components must be addressed proper parenting skills, proper exercise, proper eating are all key elements in the successful life style change.
Male Speaker : So the family diet besides to keep safe from other the house as a best success right to having all those can be some around sometimes kids just crabs is that true?
Henry Anhalt: I think its difficult for children to make choices when faced wit the temptation of foods that have greater feel that they have been eating for a long time and I certainly think that give them the contacts that these childrens have grown up and its much better to move the particularly problematic foods from the home now of course the major philosophy of our program and others is the moderate intake that means not to completely exclude but rather to minimize humanitarian exposure to problematic foods this how ever must be done within the contacts that appropriate behavioral support otherwise its like the fail and the cycle of negatively enforcement can continue.

Henry Anhalt: A slow and steady weight lose is associated with the appropriate life style change is the most ideal way to approach weight lose in some children that may mean no weight loss at all but rather continue linear growth that is to get taller and maintaining the same body weight by definitions they will be getting lighter fro their size this two be may be an appropriate goal except to the child.
Male Speaker: Some time kids going diet really a good job and they get periods so they just stagnated just they just have lose the weight. How can we difference to those kinds of periods they will give up.
Henry Anhalt: Like most everything else they requires behavioral changes it’s important to understand that there will be peaks and valleys in terms of how we succeed in maintaining this kind of life style change. Its important not to allow negative feelings to prevent the child from remembering the successes that they have in the past and look forward to success that they will have in the future it can be stressed enough that children will experience abs and flows and their success in approaching life style change. And not to discard all the positive change they have made if they experience under all and have deserved whether not that successful.
