Here in the bay Pandino viscosia, the tide is up. At this time of the day, roads rest on a bed of rock and mud.
Through this channel, the twice a day change of tide may raise and lower the water level as much as 16 meters.
What causes the tides?
A bulge of water is created by the gravitational pull of the moon. If it is stronger on one side of our planet, another watery bulge forms on the other side of the earth. This bulge is caused by the rotation of the earth-moon system. When a land mass lines up with this earth-moon system, the water around that land mass is at high tide. In contrast, when the land mass is at right angles to the earth-moon system, the water around it is at low tide.
Thus, every land mass is exposed to two high tides and low tides every 24 hours. By means of time lapse photography, we will watch high tide return to the bay of Pandino.
