Hi! This is Chris from VitaminCM.com and today I’m going to do a quick review of the Office
2011 Beta Preview for Mac. If you’ve ever used any of the Microsoft office products on the Mac
you probably were not as happy with them as you might be saying reusing among windows. For
instance I have the most recent version Office 2008 on my computer and I absolutely positively
hated it, I thought it was just a dreadful unsalable piece of garbage. Office 2011 the Beta
Preview, I couldn’t be happy with the product, let’s go to the couple things that I think really or
just major, major improvements in the project.
One of the first things that will jump it out that you is that the aide of the ribbon enter phase in
which is similar to the ribbon enter phase in Office 2007 and the Office 2010 beta for the
windows version. Leaving a little bit better the ribbon in the Mac so I’m in worried here and if
you notice by clicking on the home tab with the ribbon or the layout tab, if I click it on the
second time once it’s selected it actually hide so for instance if you we’re in Microsoft Word and
you just want to concentrate on typing and you don’t want all that destructing stuffs in there you
can you know collapse or uncollapse. Couple other nice things that they have the template
galleries that allow you to create documents so it likes spreadsheets, word docs, power point
presentations they’ve added the couple more templates too and they’re all pretty nice. These
couple other nice features if you go to the file share menu you can save it to your Microsoft sky
drive which gives you 25 gigs of online storage, you can save to a share point folder if you set up
your email address here you can send it as an email attachment or a link to it if its on a share
drive. Another nice thing that they’ve added if you to a smart art you can insert smart art which
you would have seen in Office 2007 and added of couple different new things for instance I have
one in power point that’s the diagram so this all different kinds of small art that you can add in
and it’s a really nice for adding some information into your doc.
The cover pages that they have so if you go to layout and pick a background page, you go to
document elements and pick cover page and they have a lot of really nice one that you can add
in, let’s switch over the power point and see they have a couple of nice items here if you go to
file share you can save it to your sky drive, to your share point, you could send it to iPhoto and
you can broadcast the slide show over your internet or intranet, you can go to the themes have
and they have lots and lots of themes that you can use so if you want to create a really attractive
and sleek presentation you can select from the wide selection of themes available to you. A
switch over the excel to see that it actually kind of looks and feels like real Microsoft Excel so if
you are an excel power user that use at the office for business all the time, the version of the
excel that was in Office 2008 for the Mac was really just the piece of garbage it wasn’t worth
using it was just terrible and I actually need to use open Office for spreadsheets and instead
because it was better. This is nice, it works really just as good as the office on the windows
machines and some ways as even a couple little extras so it really gives you some nice visual and
you could put background images in now if you want it to set on a white background you can
have an image, tables, charts, smart art, formulas, you can really do some nice things formulas.
The nice they’ve done with all this is a save as web page or save layout, you can actually create
something here so for one to make this as a table on a web page I can just create this table in
excel which is certainly a really nice easy way to create it and then to save it out as a web page
and uploaded to my website. Now the nicest thing that they added to Office 2011 is Microsoft
Outlook, if you ever use this which is what you use to come with office 2008 is just so it was just
terrible. Microsoft Outlook it functions like outlook on windows, it’s really nice so you got your
email, you have your calendar, your contacts, to do’s and notes really great lot of lot of really
nice options here, a lot controls they can look different, you can import calendars on the web,
you can see your co-workers calendars just a really nice job and if you ever had to use Mac or
worst if you ever had to use iCow on Mac or mail or Mac I personally hate them if you want to
use a desktop mail tool Outlook is just so far superior to both of those plus you have older stuffs
in one place in your calendar, your email in your contacts all in one place and need to do list.
Really nice and this is just such a great edition to the Office for Mac, so if you are using any
version of Office for Mac or if you are using iWork by Apple this is just the tremendous upgrade
I would recommend the office 2011 upgrade and this is available to anybody that wants to do
Office like productivity so again it’s really, really nice operate by Microsoft, highly
recommended.
