Welcome to this week’s tips segment at growingwisdom.com and you know one of my tips in the past, I talk about planting a morning glory and letting it go up the fence or in my case, I do this every year, I put it up the telephone pole, but the one problem with this, it is annual. It goes up, it dies and I got to plant it again. So how about planting something with the same idea that is perennial, so for that we are going to take our favorite, a climbing hydrangea and show you where I think this plant would do particularly well, let us go.
So I am at the base of my maple tree and this particular tree has been limbed up quite a bit, maybe a little too much and it looks a little bit bizarre because the trunk is so long so I want to cover this trunk and I am actually going to use the climbing hydrangea. The climbing hydrangea is a wonderful plant. It is a carry award winning plant and for those of you not in the northeast, it basically means that it does well in the northeastern climate, so it would also do well in other colder climates around the country. For that matter, around the globe and the climbing hydrangea has this wonderful waxy like shiny green leaves. It gets a beautiful white flower and it will grow 20, 30 or 40 feet high and cling right to this tree going all the way up and in just a few years, four, five or six years it will look fantastic and I will get to see this beautiful climbing hydrangea going all the way up this tree. Of course you can plant a climbing hydrangea along a trellis, a fence but do be careful if you put along side your house because it will grip the wood and that can tend not to be very good for wooden homes.
