Jim: Hi, I'm Jim from Connecticut, 43 years old. My question is what are some strategies to open up conversation with your doctor about embarrassing topics? Jim Jirjis: Jim, that's an excellent question. Many people are embarrassed to bring up sensitive topics with their doctor and then don't get the treatment that they need. An important tip is to simply be honest up front with your doctor, and state that there is a topic that you need to ask him for which you are embarrassed. That'll cue the doctor in that it's a sensitive topic and will really help them to spend the time they need. In addition, don't bring it up at the end of the visit when the doctor doesn't have any more time to talk with you but be careful to bring it up early in the visit, so that there is adequate amount of time to discuss the sensitive issue.
