Hello, my name is Moe Harris. So today I’m at the Professional Bartending School in Arlington, Virginia showing you how to open up bottles of beer without a bottle opener. We’re going to be using everyday objects around your house such as another bottle of beer, a ring, a countertop, even a piece of paper is going to help us open up a bottle of beer. Before we begin opening bottles of beers there are a couple of safety issues I’d like to address. We are going to be using different objects to open up the bottles of beers, objects that aren’t designed for opening a bottle of beer, so because of that since we’re using them not for their intended purposes there’s always the opportunity to break the bottle. Now, when you break a bottle there’s an opportunity to cut yourself and when you might bleed all over your beer something that nobody wants to do. So please when you’re practicing this at home practice with great caution. Whenever humanly possible just use a bottle opener that’s what it’s designed for. But if you actually want to perform to use behind the real bar we always say practice at home and perform behind the bar.
Now, before we actually begin, a couple of things about myself I’m a professional flair bartender. For the past few years I’ve been competing professionally around the world in competitions ranging from flair which is bottle and food and basically speed, accuracy, mixology, a whole bunch of different competitions. In addition to that I’ve been teaching bartending here at the professional bartending school for the past six years now. I’m also a real working bartender in Washington, DC, I bartend all the time. I can assure you that with all these accolades and awards and trophies that I’ve won, with all these years of practicing accidents do happen so I can stress that enough guys, please be careful.
Now, before we begin opening up bottles of beer I’m going to show you a little bit of science behind how a bottle of beer actually opens.
