Eric Judor: Hello, my name is Beam 2, Eric Judor with the United States Coast Guard station, Washington D.C. Today, we're going to be talking about boating safety and how you can help yourself and the coast guard to assist you in water and marine safe. I'll be talking about how to wear a life jacket, how to use your VHF marine radio
Female Speaker: Mayday, Mayday, Mayday.
Eric Judor: How to use your flares and last to be discussing, how you can contact the Coast Guard Auxiliary for free vessel check and boating safety classes. This lesson is about how to file a float plan. Before you get underway for the day, let your family member or a friend know where you are going and when you plan to be back. Also, if you decide to make a change to your float plan, let that same friend or family member know where you are and if your time is changed when you're expected to be back. In case, you don't come back on time, your friend or family member will be able to notify the coast guard and tell them, where exactly you were going and what time you should have been back.
Female Speaker: Hey, Eric I just wanted to call and let you know that me and some friends are heading on, on the boat we're going to go up toward James Creek Marina and just for the day, will be back around six or so, if anything changes will give you a call, okay? Bye.
Eric Judor: By doing this, you'll help the coast guard, save time, money and possibly a life.
