My cat passed away with Oral SCC back in 2009. One question I have always wanted answered was whether dental care can reduce the chances of this disease. I adopted this cat from friends late in her life and noticed when she yawned she had rather smelly "cat food breath" even before she became ill. I just assumed this was a symptom of getting old or she just had bad breath from the food she ate so it was never mentioned to my vet and the vet never picked up on it. It just so happened she started to paw her mouth just prior to the diagnosis of oral scc so I scheduled her for a routine dental and a couple bad teeth were extracted. A few months later, the cancer showed up. Because of this I have always wondered if proper dental care could have saved her or whether the cancer would have happened anyway. There have been a number of veterinary studies on dental care in cats. Do you know if a link between routine dental care and a reduction of oral scc has been established?
