So I’m going to show you a particularly unpleasant pest to pest sort of pear midge and as you cut this pear open and you see inside that it’s full of maggots and then you can see them wriggling.
This is a pear which is completely filled with these pretty disgusting maggots so that you can see that they are just wriggling there. These pests are gone now. There’s nothing you can do about it. In the outside, this looks a bit non-key.
We’ve had a big problem with a pear midge. There's not a lot you can do about it apart from spray with insecticide before the pear is set. That’s another; looks like it probably affect it as well.
Pear midge, the pear fruitlets full of these disgusting maggots. This is the 6th of May. This is one of my espaliers I’ve shown you the other day. Pear midge is one of what I called the 100% is. It’s one of the meanest pests which by itself, without any assistance from scab or winter moth caterpillar or codling moth or any other pests at all can give you a 100% destruction of the entire crop.
I put a bit on the text about different controls for it but again, the really effective control is to hit the tree hard with insecticide at the right time. Otherwise, you know you’d get this and that’s another one, just cut that open and again, that’s the same. You see maggots inside it.
So it's a pity that they’re inside the fruit growing. There are various pest insects and diseases. We don’t care whether they live and die and frankly they will destroy your crop and we should do something to destroy them. A somber matter but we probably not going to, there’re many pests on this tree. We were too busy, various excuses. We didn’t get the right amount of pesticide on the tree at the right time. And this was where I probably not going to get any crop.
