Audra Lowe: Oh, you all want to get rid of all the clutter, especially around the holidays, Rhiannon found the best tricks professional organizers use that anybody out there can do.
Rhiannon Ally: Keeping organized can save you time, but it’s also very also very tricky. But if you have the right tools, it can make your life a lot easier. And today we have professional organizer Leslie Jacobs here to show us some of your favorite items and I love these because they’re not only cheap, easy to find.
Leslie Jacobs: Excellent, you can find them at any store anywhere.
And let’s start with a basket. A basket is a basket is a basket. They come in all different shapes, all different sizes. And this one you can put them in a kitchen, keep some coupons in it or put it by the door and put all of the stuff that you need to get ready for the next morning.
Rhiannon Ally: In that way you have it all in one central spot, you say professiona organizers love baskets.
Leslie Jacobs: Exactly.
Rhiannon Ally: Okay, next we have a hanger that just looks like a typical hanger, what’s special?
Leslie Jacobs: Typical hanger. It has velvet on it. So if you put like delicate things on it. It won’t fall off. It’s balanced and in your closet, it’s a great thing.
Rhiannon Ally: Yes, you won’t lose your clothes, I love that. And it’s a little sturdier than the plastic ones—I love that.
Leslie Jacobs: Yes, exactly. And because it’s so thin, you get a lot of clothes in there.
Rhiannon Ally: Okay, I’ve seen these everywhere and I never used them. What are these exactly?
Leslie Jacobs: These, you just put on the wall, they’re 3M by command and they’re the greatest things because you can use them, in the kitchen for potholders, in your bedroom if you need to put a necklace or something like that, a belt or scarves in your closet, I even use them in the bathroom. I mean everything and anywhere. And for Christmas, the holidays, they come in different colors.
Rhiannon Ally: You can decorate with them. Alright, now this next thing, I’ve seen these in closet but I love your idea for how to use them.
Leslie Jacobs: Thank you.
Rhiannon Ally: This is a sweater organizer.
Leslie Jacobs: It’s a sweater organizer but I use it instead of a sweater organizer, it use it to hold all of my shoes.
Rhiannon Ally: Why not use a show rack?
Leslie Jacobs: Well, in the shoe rack, you have one shoe and then the pair. This, I could put both of them on the same level and see what I have.
Rhiannon Ally: I love that.
Leslie Jacobs: And a moments glance.
Rhiannon Ally: And you say these come for kids also so you can go and put the kids clothes on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday—
Leslie Jacobs: And it will save mothers a lot of time.
Rhiannon Ally: Okay, next we have a plastic basket here, now what do you love about this?
Leslie Jacobs: Well, first of all, I love the fact that you can take it with you, so if you have kids, you can store crayons and put a coloring book in here, or the Lego’s or your Matchboxes and all you have to do is close it up and bring it with you.
Rhiannon Ally: And the kids can help you clean up.
Leslie Jacobs: Exactly.
Rhiannon Ally: Okay, next we have these what you say are great for your drawers, I never thought of that.
Leslie Jacobs: Yes, you can stick it in your desk drawer or your junk drawer and you can organize your junk drawer.
Rhiannon Ally: Yes, because how many lose pens do we have just floating around our drawers, you can use one of those, that’s great. Now next, these are utensil holders.
Leslie Jacobs: Yes.
Rhiannon Ally: But you say you use them for other things.
Leslie Jacobs: Oh definitely. And you can have the cheaper one or the more expensive one. You can put this in your desk. You can use it in your junk drawer. You can use it in any drawer. I have some of my make-up in here. You can use them for anything and anywhere around your house, it’s great.
Rhiannon Ally: And mugs, we all have mugs—yes, too many mugs at the house. But you say don’t throw them out.
Leslie Jacobs: Oh God, no. One great thing about mugs is that you can use them for all different things. I have one in my bathroom for my toothpaste and my toothbrush, another one in my desk that I use for all my pens.
Rhiannon Ally: Great idea and it looked a little more decorative than something else. I like that
Leslie Jacobs: And yes, exactly.
