Male Speaker: There is a condition we see in adolescents, a little knee pain, and the doctor examines right below knee, he sees a swelling. What's it all about?
David Godfried: There is a condition called Osgood-Schlatter which is very common in adolescents and frequently it happens in kids that are very active but there are kids that aren't particularly athletic, that will get it. It's a swelling right where your patellar tendon inserts, and it's a condition that is self-limiting, the kids will outgrow it.
Male Speaker: Any therapy you need to do for it?
David Godfried: What I usually tell patients is that they can continue participating in the sports that they are involved in if they are able to. And I would say 85% of the time, kids are able to continue. So I recommend something for inflammation as necessary, and I only will recommend restricting gym or sports if the pain is so severe that kid is having trouble getting around.
Male Speaker: So the prognosis is pretty good. Is that correct?
David Godfried: Excellent, yes.
