Outfit Layering Tips for Skiing and Snowboarding
Hi! I'm Ramona Bruland for Plum TV and in today’s Gear Tip, we’re going to talk about the importance of layering. No one likes to be cold when they’re out on the slope so good layering is important to have a fun out on the slopes.
If you’re skiing down the mountain and you’re working hard and you're perspiring, not so good to as soon as you sit on that chairlift, your sweat is going to freeze and there’s a rapid heating and cooling of your body temperature means you’re going to be stuck in bed with the cold for the rest of ski vacation. So, start with a good base layer. A polyester or wool material is important to be next to your skin. Cotton is comfortable but it doesn’t -- moisture. Polyester, wool, good for your base layer.
Second layer, you could have really thick depending on how cold it is out. -- is really good for your second layer. You can get picked off in any places. Vest is always good for your second layer as well because it keeps your cold, -- sprayed with -- and you’re not suck you like that snowman while going around the slopes. Also, if you get really cold out in the slopes you can find some nice fitted down layers. These are also great for second layers if you do feel the cold.
Now, your third layer is the most important. There are so many different varieties out there. If you intend to be skiing and snowboarding well where it gets a little wet maybe, mixed precipitation, maybe going for something that’s gore-tex, a 100% windproof and waterproof. Maybe you’re East Coast or Great Springs skiing, definitely something to look for there.
Now, most shoal layers do have ventilation that’s really good for regulating your body temperature so if you're working hard, unzip your pit tips, your pad tips, regulate your body temperature. Let some ventilation get in there and right at the bottom of the runner and zip back up so you stay nice and warm for that clod or chill ride up.
Now, bigger is better. You can see those pop right out there were really bagged in clothing is a method to their madness. Baggier clothes means you can layer your clothes better overlapping them so there’s less drafts and less exposed skin when you're out skiing and snowboarding.
Now, what’s important to keep your cool wool with proper layer and don’t forget about your extremities. If would be a head cold, maybe your hands or face or it’s going to expose skin at the back of your low back there, then the whole part of layering goes up the lingo. Fashion’s important but it is more important to be well laid out on the slopes so have some good gear and lots of layer choices to choose from before it goes to your skin.
