Overview of the Rear Suspension Linkage

Once you have the shock off, now is a good time to evaluate how your rear suspension is working. You want this to move smoothly, little resistance and when you drop it, it should move just under it's own weight. This one actually have all seal bearings, in well in these pivots. This main pivot is a very large bushing, the swing arms and clamp on the either end of the bottom racket shell. Those bushings can easily be replaced, take the crank off to loosen the pinch bolts here that pinch the swing arms on to the ends of this. Slide the bottom racket out. Plastic bushings can wear.

Sometimes plastic bushings if you put the wrong lubricant on them can actually swell and then you would notice that because you start moving the system and it would just be so sticky you can hardly move it. But in this one there is no play that you could feel or anything. So there is no need to do anything near this one but that fitting underneath and then pump some grease in underneath here. These are cartridge bearings and the cartridge bearings can be replaced if they fail and start squeaking. To get these kind of things out you will usually have to take the swing arm off and drive them out with a screwdriver or something to get underneath and then when you push them in to get them parallel.

If you take a socket of the right size you can just press it in by clamping it in the vice and squeezing it between the vice jaws and we'll just push that bearing in perfectly straight flat and the same thing goes with the bushing.
