PABA and Hair Greying

Ashley: Hi! My name is Ashley and I am 25 and I am from Bellbrook, Ohio. I know I look young, but I am really worried about my hair graying, and I heard that PABA can retard the graying of hair. Is that true?

Joseph Greco: That's an interesting question Ashley. Well, first we will start with PABA or Para-Aminobenzoic Acid. It's one of the B-complex vitamins and it's a natural antioxidant synthesized by your body.

Now, there have been a few studies in the past that have showed a temporary darkening of gray hair in individuals on oral PABA supplements. But really there are no good clinical studies that reliably show that PABA supplementation can reverse graying, or even stop it.

So I do recommend that if you are considering any type of treatment for hair loss or for graying of hair to consult with your dermatologist first.
