Panasonic's Evolta Robot Cycles to a World Record

It’s the little robot that went on and on, Panasonic’s Evoltacon tri-cycling robot found by 2 of the companies, Evolta batteries set off Thursday morning on an attempt to run 24 hours around the Historic Les Mans circuit in France. It was attempted to break a Guinness world record, for the longest distance covered by a battery operated remote controlled car and at the same time make a statement about the capacity of Evolta batteries. The challenge began just off to 10 am local time but just over an hour in it run into trouble, the front left wheel wasn’t running right, and the first attempt had to be abandoned. A little later a second attempt was started and this time things look more promising, the robot made its way around the traffic with a speed of just under 1 kilometer per hour and navigated by following an infrared beam emitted by a buggy. As sunset came always going well and the little robot made it through the night without any further problems and just before midday on Friday the 24 hour was broken to chairs of Panasonic workers, the robot apparently oblivious achievement just kept on going. At the 24 hour mark, the robot did covered 5.6 laps of the circuit a distance of almost 24 kilometers and set a new record. In Tokyo, Martyn Williams, IDG News Service.
