Byron Bradley: Hi my name is Byron. I am an ACA Canoe Instructor. We are going to talk about the canoe because we are talking about solo canoeing today. The canoe, which I mean is a solo canoe. One person can sit in it. There is the hull. This canoe is made of Kevlar. Most canoes you will buy are made of plastic; some of them are made of aluminum.
The parts of the canoe, we have the decks, which at front, plastic pieces of top and the rear of the boat. We have the gunwales, which are these metal rails that run down the side of the canoe, help the canoe hold it shape. We have ports in the canoe, which we have here and here, which also helps shake the canoe. Of course we have a seat that I am sitting on. In this canoe we have it set up for whitewater, so I have air bags in it that letting the volume of the canoe if its get water in it, you know keep the canoe from filling up with lot of water that I have to get out or make it very difficult to maneuver.
Next, we have the canoe paddle. Canoe paddle has basic parts. We have the T-grip at the top, which we hold on to. We have the paddle shaft, which supports the paddle and of course we have the paddle blade. This is used to maneuver the canoe around. So those are the parts of the canoe and the canoe paddle.
Next we will talk about entering and exiting the canoe.
