Hi, my name is Bert Monroy and I am here live at Photoshop World where we are doing all kind of fun stuff. I want to show you one of the coolest features of the new CS4, and that is the ability to go in there and create and manipulate 3D objects. Now this is not necessarily a new avenue for Adobe to take, they did try this for a while back with the product called Dimensions, which you take fold into Illustrator, but this is all totally new approach within Photoshop to add a 3D layer.
Now we saw 3D layer with CS3 which allowed you to bring in 3D objects from other 3D programs, but now we have an entire 3D menu which allows you to actually generate the objects right within Photoshop.
So let me just show you what I am talking about here. I got here a blank screen. There is nothing on the screen. So let us get some color here, and let us just say we pick this nice blue over here, and in a new layer, I am going to go ahead and fill that layer with some blue. So I am just going to come to here and say fill it with the foreground color.
Now I am going to change my color to let us say a nice bright red like that. And I am going to type in a little saying here. I am going to say “Drink ‘em.” Okay, we are basically going to do a little soda can. So I got this little text here, I am going just do a little flip on it. I am going to rotate it 90º there you go. There is our type it is vertical, because it is going to go up to the side of the can.
So I am going to just distort this just a little bit to make it a little fatter, and so on, so it would just kind of make it a little shrink it down like that maybe, and then stretch it out a little, just like that. Now it looks good, now I am going to center it right there on top of that blue filed.
So now I have these two layers, so what I am going to do is I am going to go in here and I am going to merge down so it they became a single layer. Now when you look here at the toolbar, you will see, that there are two new tools that actually deal with 3Ding. The first tool allows you to move the objects around. The second one allows your to move the camera around. This is how you are viewing the objects.
So now, I am going to go just to the creation and there is the new menu, 3D, and you will see that one of the choices I have right here is new shape fun layer. Now I have the layer selected to have to move background with the red works on it, so I am going to say go in there and give me a cylinder. You notice there are a lot of pre shapes. Pre done shapes is ring, and pyramids, and even a hat, and a wine bottle, all pre done for you.
So I am going to go in there and select cylinder, and right of the bat you see that we have a 3D cam that is blue with that red words on it, now we kind of lost the words on the side there. That is the beauty of the tools to move things around. You could see I am moving this guy around in 3D space. See? I am moving him around in 3D space.
Now that bottom right there, right now it is green. That is just its original color right there. Let us just say I wanted to change that. Let us get a different view here, let us spin this around like that, okay, and we can spin it around maybe, send it back in space, or bring it forward in space. All this nice controls to move around in an actual 3 dimensional space.
Now that green down there, I just said I did not particularly care for that. Let us go in there and rotate this so we can see more of that green bottom. Now if we look at the layers panel, you will see that there is a separate little area here for textures. You see the bottom and the top? I am go here and double click on the bottom. Now you notice that it turned into a separate file that showed up here as a tab, and it has given me a single layer.
Now that layer right now has nothing in it. So let us just say that I want the bottom of this can to have a kind of a little texture to it, and a particular color, so I am going to go in there and pick a color that I want. Let us just say I want it to be this yellowish color right there, more towards the bage
