Hey, this is David OnlineLessonsVideos.com and today we’re going to talk about Intros and Turnarounds for E9 pedal steel. So let’s get started.
Okay so let’s talk a little bit about doing intros, and intros are basically going to be just small vamps or a series of harmonized notes that are going to pull you into the beginning of the songs. So, it’s like a kick off that you would do in a song.
So lot of times, you’re going to usually be working over 1, 4, 5 progression or typical and we’re going to understand the key of A for all these, so it would be A, D and E and let’s just do some variations of different intros. So we’re going to start, all these are going to be two-note intro. So we’re going to try not to use a lot of complex stuff here, just get very basic and use a lot of just simple two note harmonies just like—a lot of stuff start on the 8th and the 6th and the 2nd of the 6th and then 6 and 5 open and you basically just moving up the scale. You’re going up a harmonized major scale. And if you’ve seen some of my beginning videos, like in the package, I go over a lot of harmonized scales and how to move around from chord to chord using two note harmonized scales.
So we’re going to use versions of that in this, but just doing shorter in a short amount. Use them and then pull it in to one chord to the next chord. So that was a sound of the 4th chord or going form A to D and 6, 7 and 6 with my A and B pedal down. 6 and 5 open and 6 and 5 with my A and B down, now I’m on the 4th chord.
At this point I can slide up to my 5th chord on the E, which is the 7th fret and still on the 6th and 5th strings. At this point I can move back to the riff, so--

And now it would be very basic.

Let’s take that as an intro right there.

Now, all I'm doing is working up a harmony two note, harmonized scale on back down and I’m staying basically between the 8th, 7th, 6th and 5th strings. So starting on the 8th and 6th going to the 7th and 6th with the D and b down. 6th and 5 open and then 6th and 5 at the D and B holding back one fret to 4th fret, back to the 5th fret and 6th fret, so I’m working that chromatically.
[Demonstration]
Let's just move it back down, now I’m back to the 6th and 5 with an open I will just move that back down from the 5th to the 3rd fret and backward started on the 8th and 6th.
[Demonstration]
And you can block each one of those notes and then it works like your picks down after each time you play or you can slide it in.
[Demonstration]
Very basic intro. Now, let's take that, same position on lesson balance, let's move up on the higher strings.
[Demonstration]
Very similar lick and it's pulling us back again into the first quarter, starting as we did before with the 8th and 6th going to the 7th and 6th with my A and B down and 6th 5 open, and 6th and 5 with my A and B down, at this point I’m playing individual notes. So I’m going to the 4th, the 5th, 3rd, back to the 4th and then to the 5th, I’m going to pull off the A pedal and then on the 6th. Let’s do it again.
[Demonstration]
Do the same thing on the 7th fret, and then end it on the 8th now the 8th fret of course, I got my A pedal, my left knee lever out, that’s give me the same chord as my opening in here.
[Demonstration]
Do it one more time slow.
