Drawing an actual science subject from direct observation is one of the most important parts of becoming an excellent pen and ink artist. Here is some helpful tips and fun information about how to draw a natural science subject from direct observation. First, you are going to need your drawing supplies, smartest paper, a pencil, an eraser, a pen and some ink. First, choose a comfortable location. You are going light an over priced candle preferably one with a leaf and scones in the wax and then you are going to place a nature CD on repeat mode so there will be little to know need to get up and change the music for the next few hours. Second, adjust the lightings so it falls on your paper and another light source to highlight your specimen. Three, study the specimen to become familiar with it, turn it slowly, looking for its best angle. Now, examine it closer under a hand lens. Four, begin a lion drawing in pencil, a sketch, short whispery strokes blocking in the entire drawing. Constantly check the accuracy of the negative spaces, which is the area around the specimen. When it is all possible, draw the scale to actual size. Five, plan carefully so that you do not run off the paper. Do not fudge in the drawing and change the accuracy of the drawing to fit a piece of paper, if necessary start over, if very necessary relight your over price candle. Six, work the entire page, slowly adding detail but still concentrating on no one area of the specimen.
The subject should immerge in paper slowly and accurately all of the same time. This line drawing should be beautiful and simple, very well stand in its own after being done. Seven, draw over the pale pen line with your pen and ink medium, pause for the ink to dry before any attempt to erase the end of the drawing. This might be a fine time to take off your pajamas and change it to some sweat while watching Judge Mathis with all that swift justice. When you return, erase all hints of the pencil lines so that viewer/action bidder will be duly impressed with your virtuosity and with what can be a difficult to master unforgiving medium pen and ink. Eight, work on a fancy signature so that those that watch antiques road shows will learn to recognize you in due time, all in due time. Sign your work, have a great time and do not be afraid to start over. Blow out your light your candle and have a good night.
