Hi! My name is Katie Jackson and I'm here at Studio Bleu Dance Center in Ashburn, Virginia. Today, I'm going to teach you how to jazz dance. We're going to start off with the regular leap. Now I'm going to break it down for you.
We always start off a leap with what's called a Chassè. The Chassè is similar to a gallop. We step together step, make sure you come off the floor and you jump up in the air and you point your toes.
Next, we're going to step with out left foot. We're going to what we call plié, which is to bend. This is what we get as up in the air, high enough, so our legs can spread into a split. We push here, we extend our right leg and we leap.
Now when you leap, you technically should get off of the floor higher than what I just did. So that's why we need the momentum to get us up off the floor. We chasse, step, leap. Now I'll do it a little bit faster. Chasse, step, leap and now I'll break it down for you one more time.
We started off with what the chasse, step together step. Make sure you come off the floor, you point your toes, step with our left foot, remember to plié or to bend, extend our leg, leap and come back down. As you leap, make sure you point your toes and extend your legs in shrinking both knees. Chasse-step-leap and that's how you do a regular leap.
Now I'll show you how to do a side leap.
