Hi, I’m Annie Good from AG out loud, the daily dog blog that is passionate about all things dog,
especially when it comes to dog rescue. So today I’m gonna do a video on my very favorite
website out there, petfinder.com. I love Pet Finder because it’s an online resource that help
people find rescue dogs that are in need of adaption. So, traditionally in the past, it’s been a little
harder to rescue, or so people have thought, because they didn’t have one place to find a dog that
they wanted. So it’s much easier to go into a pet store or even to an online breeder or to a breeder
to find what you are looking for, but we want to discourage that one, we are all about rescue. So
Pet Finder has been great, because you can search to the kind of dog that you want. You can
even be as specific as what breed you're looking for, the age, the gender, all that good stuff, and
it’ll search all the dogs available on your area who are at rescues or shelters and up for adaption.
So let’s go check out how to use it, so if you see, this is Pet Finder’s main page, it’s
petfinder.com. And on the left here, there’s gonna be a search for the or search for the pet area,
now remember that they actually will help you find rescue cats and birds and all sorts of things,
we’re of course gonna look at dogs, because we are a daily dog blog. So traditionally, it seems
that most people when they want a dog, they want that puppy. Now, between you and me, when
they go through a lot of puppy phase as they may have be okay with not having a puppy the next
time, but. So let’s look first for a puppy, I think that there's a misnomer that you cannot get a
pure bred puppy through rescue. Or if you do that they must have issues. I’m gonna prove that
wrong today. So, we put in dog, let’s leave the breed blank for now, let’s say we’re not just not
quite sure what breed. But we know we wanna baby as was, as you can see on the age, I click
baby, you also have the option of young, adult and senior. Size’s small, gender? We don’t really
care about yet, so we’re gonna put both, and my ZIP code here under location, let’s go ahead and
search and see who’s available. Okay, right away, this little girl pops out and catches my eye.
Oh, look at Sunny in Nebraska, little Boston Terrier. Now, remember that it will tell you if it’s a
pure bred, ie., you know, just Boston Terrier, or if it’s a mix, it’ll say mix or what its mix with.
So here’s a couple of pictures of Sunny, oh, look at how cute Sunny is. So, and then we lower,
we have the description of her, it says when she is born, it looks like that she came from a puppy
mill. It also says things like, I live with boys currently in grade school long with both big and
small dogs and I will also do fine at home with cats. I’m working on potty train and I'm in good
health. So these are important things that Rescue like to tell people, the thing is that Rescue and
the goal of Rescue is not just to keep pumping out pets, they wanna find dogs their forever home.
So, they don’t want these dogs to be turning to shelters or rescues, because of that, eventually the
good, the bad, and the ugly. We have the good, develops their personality, but they also tell you
if they have health conditions, if they shouldn’t be around kids or cats or other dogs. They’ll
gonna tell you if they’re potty trained or not usually, and so then, each person that are trying to
find a dog can make most important choice. I love this, because, obviously it’s the best policy
when I comes to having your dog, and you wanna know what you’re getting into, so they’re
really good about doing that. Alright, let’s go back to the screen. So that was Sunny, on the same
search and Sunny is actually in my town, on the same search, oh let’s go down. Now if you want
a fluffier dog, here’s mister or miss Mickey, I thought it’s Mikey but it’s a female, so I’m not
sure. But look at this little Shitzu, oh my gosh, to die for. Oh, look at that furry little face. Okay,
what a cutie here, it’s you. So this little girl, let’s see, oh it is a boy. Well, gotta check that
carefully, because up here it actually says female, but down here it says boy, so, yeah, little
mistake on their part, but easy fix. So, it just says what his birthday is and that he’s sweet and
playful. Not as much information on him, because he’s so young probably. But again, a great
little puppy that’s rescued, yeah, lot’s of choices. So we’ve seen the Boston Terrier and a Shitzu,
my gosh, there's everything from Dachsund to Pekinese to Pomerenian, oh what else, Beagles,
Chihuahuas, the list goes on and on. As you can see there are several pages, I mean, there are
pages and pages of available dogs. Okay, let’s try something out, let’s say that you wanted a
specific breed but you didn’t really care what age it was. So let’s look for a larger breed, let’s
see. Let’s do a Boxer, since my nephew, Lex, who rides life according to Lexus, half Boxer half
Rhodesian Ridgeback, we’ll find boxers. Let’s see, we don’t care about the age, we don’t care
about the gender. Alright, let’s search for that, all right, here are all the Boxers in my area. Oh,
look at Dodge down here, okay, this is Dodge, oh, Dodge is a cutie. Dodge is a young female and
obviously very playful by this picture, it looks like, and oh and they’re very honest, she’s a
young girl and pretty wild and need of structure and lots of exercise. And so far she seems to be
house trained, so that’s good. She was spade, most of them will be spade, I would say about 99.9
percent will be, and she’s got need a home without little children due to her activity level. Again,
they’re being really honest, coz they wanna have the best fit for her. So anyway, yeah, here is,
here is little Dodge. Now, on each dog, if you find a dog that you’re interested in, you can go
down, and it usually have the contact information, like here it’s the Midwest Boxer rescue in
Nebraska, and they prefer email instead of phone. So, here’s their email then right here, I can
then click the email them to ask. If they give a phone number, I suggest calling, because when
we adapted Stella, number of people had emailed about her but the lady who is in charge with
the rescue is so busy that she didn’t have time to check it. So instead, I called and she was, oh
great, a home for Stella, so I got in, you know, just because I called. But usually they’ll tell their
preference. So that’s just a little example of how to use Pet Finder, the option is so limitless. You
can look for like, like I said, age, you can specify by baby, young, adult, or senior. You can look
for the breed that you want, the gender that you want and then something that’s close to your
area, so you don’t have to travel much. Now most rescues will check you out a little bit, they
wanna reference you from a vet, and some will even do in home visits. But it’s kind of a mix bag
as far that, but it really is a easy thing, it’s so rewarding to rescue, because you’ve given these
dogs such great homes. Remember, there is a broad spectrum to of puppies to old, but then also,
behavioral issues, no behavioral issues, or health issues, no health issues. Again they will tell
you, they will really be honest about that, but it’s kind of old myth that all rescued are just gonna
be beat up old dogs. So, I’m here to tell it today, to tell you that all the rescue dogs out there are
fabulous and there is one that will fit the needs of you and your family. So, happy rescuing, if
you have any questions, leave it, please leave comments below, I’ll be happy to help. And if
you’re looking for a dog, I love to help people look for dogs to, it’s my favorite thing. Til next
time guys, we’ll see yah.
