Female: Clonazepam is a prescription medication which is available both as a generic drug, and under the brand name Klonopin. Clonazepam is derivative of the benzodiazepine class which includes Xanax and Valium. Here is how Clonazepam works.
GABA is a neurotransmitter found in the brain when the brain becomes over excited, GABA acts to inhibit this excitement. When Clonazepam enters the brain it binds to a receptor on GABA this creates a powerful inhibitory effect causing sedation, and reducing anxiety.
Clonazepam is commonly prescribed to treat convulsions and ticks. Those with anxiety disorder or panic attacks can also benefit from Clonazepam.
Klonopin can be taken orally via tablets, quick dissolving wafers or a liquid solution. Clonazepam comes in dosages from 0.25 mg to 2.5 mg. and can also be administered via injection.
