Hello, my name is Dave from VideoFxUniverse.TK and today we are going to do a Star Wars opening scene. Basically it is the opening where you get the Star Wars logo appear and the Chrome Text appear on the screen. This can be used for anyone that is interested in doing a Star Wars film. Basically we are going to be making this in Photoshop and After Effects.
Now first off, before we can do anything you need to get a Star Wars Font. Now to do this you can get from any where, the fridge going to Google and type in on there “Star Wars Font” and basically you will get all kinds of web pages has come up and you can download the Fonts so many of these. So if I just close this down. I will show you what you can do once you have got your Font.
Alright, once you have downloaded it, you should find it here. Most of the time they come in zip files but what you need to do is open up your control panel and you will see an icon that says Fonts. Now what you need to do is simple as just click your Font and just move it into there, and it will automatically install it into your Fonts. So once that is done, that is good, we can close this down and so we can now go into Photoshop and edit it. So first off, what we need to do is File, New and I will say 500 by 500, okay. Alright, here we have it.
Now we are writing our text. So, we click on here, it is looking a bit big. So it opens the—enter—“WARS”, alright. Okay. Now we have done that, let us just move this over a bit. Actually I think what we need to do is edit this and make it a little bit bigger. So, go to image size and change the width to about, I will say 600. I say fix it in there, quite nicely now. As you can see the writing here is quite big so we need to edit this. Okay, we exceed 672 up here so what I am going to do is just change it to 160, okay, right, made it a little bit smaller and you will notice here is it has a line in—if you see any Star Wars film you will see that the “S” and the “T” and the “R” and the “S” are both linked into one word, one letter rather.
So it is what we need to do to edit this, alright we need to highlight all of these, okay. Bring up their properties here and we need to bring this down to around of about 25, that is it, makes it a little bit tighter as you can see. I will space it in the space in between the letters and we are going to change this as well because that is too far apart. So let us see what happens if we fiddle about this—no, that is too much. Now that is looking quite good, the text is quite close together. So, what we need to do is try to see if we can clear this up a bit more because the text should not be in black. We have our text selected, go down to the effect parameter and click “stroke.” Change the color to a bright yellow, that will do nicely and we will set this to about three. That is looking good, okay.
Now we bring our fill right down to zero and as you can see now we just have the writing and the outline writing and not the inside black writing. Now that we have done that we go out to layer, rush teroise layer, now we flatten the image and we get the eraser tool, change that, erase the top, and what we want to do is get rid of this little yellow lines between the writings so you have to quite careful with this, so I want to put this down to about 30 and I am just going to click up between the writing, alright that is gone. I am just zoom in just to make sure there is no excess lines and period in it. As you can see there is a little bit of line here. Sounds good, clear that they are off, and up to the top again, and again, just trim this bit a more, right, okay, let us just zoom out, right.
Now what we need to do is get our magic eraser tool and erase the background so that we just have the central writing in it. So make sure you get rid of all the background. There we go, alright and there we have it. Save that file, so you go to file, save as and write this down as the Star Wars logo make sure you save it as a PSD file and done. Right, that is excellent. Okay, now that is all saved, we can close this down and we can now move into after effects.
