Michael Peterson: Hello, my name is Michael Peterson. I've been an independent locksmith in Oak Park Illinois, for the last 10 years. Today I'm demonstrating basic lock picking techniques.
For this demonstration, I'll be using a tension tool and manual pick gun. I've also been picking a single sided deadbolt. The tension tool does almost the same thing as tension wrench does, but it does it allows you to use in more precious amount of pressure using your finger tips instead of your whole hand on wrench. The pick gun is a automatic version of the basic pick, it allows you to strike all the pick all the pins at one time instead of manipulating them individually, here is how to use it.
Insert the tension tool into the cylinder and apply clockwise or counterclockwise pressure. Insert the blade of pick gun, try not to bind it. Apply pressure on the tension wrench and pull the hand on the pick gun. The clicking noise is refilling the handle and over again, racking the pin. You pull the trigger on the pick gun to manipulate the pins inside the cylinder. Why you are doing this, you are increasing and decreasing the tension on the cylinder with tension wrench.
Once the cylinder is picked use a flathead screwdriver to throw the ball. Before inserting a key into the lock, you must return the cylinder to this resting position. For next demonstration I'll be showing you how to pick a commercial grade locker.
