Hi! My name is Katie Jackson, and I'm here at Studio Bleu Dance Center in Ashburn, Virginia. Today, I'm going to show you how to Jazz Dance. We're going to start off learning a pirouette turn.
And now I'll break it down for you. Our arms are going to go out to the side, nice and locked, nice and sturdy with nice strong arms. We're going to step on our right foot, put our left foot in front, and my right arm is going to come in front. My back foot, and I will to this side so you can see, my heel is going to be up. My front foot is going to be flat on the floor. Both knees are going to bend straight down so my weight is in the middle.
Now, when I come up, my arms are going to come in, my left arm is going to come in, so I'm going to be turning to the right as my right leg coming up, so I'm going to rotate this way. So I step, I prep. Now when I turn, my foot comes up to my knee with a pointed toe and I rise up onto my tiptoe, onto what we call relevé. Step, prep, pull up and down. When you pull up, make sure that your abs are nice and engaged, so they are nice and tight towards your spine, your spine is lifting nice and tall as if you have something pulling from your head, point it straight up. Step, prep, and turn down. We'll do it one more time. Step, prep, turn, down.
And now, I'll teach you guys how to do a double pirouette turn. All the fundamentals stay the same; you will see you have more momentum when you turn. So when we prep, it's the same thing. Now, when my arms come in, they are going to come in a little bit quicker, a little bit faster to give me more rotations around. Now, when I turn, I must spot something in front of me. So I keep my stop until I can no longer spot it anymore, whip your head around. The faster you spot, the stronger your spot, the more rotations you can do. Here's the double pirouette, and one more time.
And now, I'll break it down for you one more time. Arms are out, step, prep to the front, left foot is going to bend. My left foot is flat on the ground. My back heel is raised. My right arm comes in front. Left arm is out to the side. Everything is going to come in and I'm going to rotate to the right as I spot. Here is the single and then here is a double. And that's how you do a single and a double pirouette. And now I'm going to teach you how to do a Fouette Turn.
