Planters Punch Cocktail Recipe
Welcome to Common Man Cocktails, I’m your host Derrick Schommer, this week we’re going to cover the Planter’s Punch, this is cool. It’s kind of got a very few actual alcoholic ingredients. We haven’t done one with just a couple alcoholic ingredients that’s the last episode.
But, before that remember the zombie, huge this one rum, a little Goslings Rum and a dash of Cointreau, not too much just a dash, and we’re also going to use a lot of cool ingredient, the textured ingredients. We’ve got a little pineapple, we’ve got a little orange juice, simple syrup, bringing that back in here again. Let’s sweeten up a little bit just a slight bit of Grenadine and let me get our little fruits, we’re going to use some garnishes here.
We got some Maraschino cherries, we got some oranges and one of this cool little swords, have you ever seen those. You have seen in the bars a lot and a little lime just to sour up off balance our simple syrups and so that we’ll have our syrup, we’ll have our limes, everything’s just going to be a party in your mouth and then we’re all going to stuff all of these ingredients to the highball glass.
This highball glass is from awesomedrinks.com check it out it's a pretty cool place. Also our sponsor again, we’ve got Partida back, we’ve got a t-shirt, Partida t-shirt. I think there’s a logo on here some place. A little Partida logo. We’re all Partida out so we’re going to do a little party.
Partida Mac. Okay, let’s get going. We’re going to shake this up let’s do this first, we’ll put the lime juice right in there, that way we can reuse this. Ice it up. Got our highball glass covered, start with the rum. We’re going to do two ounces of dark rum so this is pretty much the core ingredient of the drink. If you’ve notice d a lot of tropical drinks tend to be rum-based. Now we’re going to do just a dash of Cointreau. I’m really considering a dash in this case in this case is probably about a quarter of an ounce but, we’ll just do that make it look good so a dash, a quarter of an ounce you’ve really aren’t going to over do it to much with this. It’s got a nice smooth orange peel taste.
So don’t really sweat it, we’re going to do one and a half ounces of the two major juices our pineapple and an orange juice. One and a half, so we’re getting some colors, we’re getting some textures, we’re also going to do just a half ounce of the simple syrup, which if you notice matches the half ounce of lime and get a nice balance there and I think we’re good to go.
Shake it up so we don’t make a mess. And there we go throw that off there, strain it into a highball, its nice and thick and it’s got some suds going on, really agitated that drink. So what we’ll do now is toss on some garnishes and really purify it, that’s like put in to the extreme and throw that on there, we got a cup of orange slices, just to go crazy because we can and look at that and the whole party right there and there you go that’s your Planter’s Punch.
Maraschino cherries right off the top. Very thick not as thick as when you use heavy cream but still quite thick, you get some of the dark rum cuts right through, very smooth tasting. It might maybe better if you use your favorite dark rum, we’re going to use the Gosling Black Seal because it’s kind of sweet, it’s got a good taste, a good texture to it. Actually it’s throwing dash of Grenadine because I think that’s what it cost for a dash and Grenadine. Give it a little extra sweetness maybe light up the bottom a little bit.
See now like if you check the bottom out it kind of looks almost like a tequila sunrise but darker. Tequila sunrise is going to be more orange. Well balanced even though you have your lemonade or your lime in here. The simple sugars and some of the other natural sugars from these juices, really smooth this out. It is a punch it’s very refreshing hot day, you sit on the porch and very good drink just to cool you off and get you in a happy mood.
So there you go that’s the Planter’s Punch check out awesome drinks.com buy some of this cool highball glasses, high quality glasses and of course our sponsor Partida. Check them out if you could find them in the store tub, like awesome tequila. I wouldn’t put it on the show. I am a tequila fan so if it was a tequila I didn’t like you wouldn’t see it here.
I’m your host Derrick Schommer we’re teaching you how to drink.
