Male1: What about dealing with the fact that there are so many doctors out there today that called themselves cosmetic surgeons? Some more than ever than what I have seen.
Male2: Well, I mean it is a multi billion dollar industry and when you have some that creates such an income or the potential income you have a lot of people jumping out of a band wagon everything from medical spas or the way to physicians who where emergency room physicians or gynecologist. And the most important thing a patient or a person who wants to achieve a cosmetic surgery result is training. You need to look at training, years ago cosmetic surgery was is not as popular as is it today and you could get away with a couple of people specializing in a certain area they would do breast--this guy would do faces, but with cosmetic surgery becoming so big, there are a lot of training programs out there and training programs meaning fellowships. After you completed a residency, you completed fellowship and cosmetic surgery there are many, many physicians who will take weekend courses, because of the insurance industry, reimbursements are down, office overhead is up.
Male1: Okay, how does somebody was looking to have something done? How would you figure out who is best qualified?
Male2: Well, the most important question you want to ask somebody is where did you get your formal cosmetic surgery training? That should be the first question that someone asks as a physician.
Male1: Okay what kind of answer are they looking for?
Male2: You want to look for somebody who has done a formal accredited didactic fellowship and just cosmetic surgery after their preliminary training and whether it would be general surgery or orthopedics or ENT, plastic surgery, even plastic surgeons. Male 2: Right and you know amputations, big stump flaps, some removals of cancer, tissue deficits.
Male1: I think people think that the term cosmetics surgeon and plastic surgeon are interchangeable, but they are not. It is two totally different things.
Male2: But, years ago when cosmetic surgery was there you have some plastic surgeon who have a switch off and make their primary practice cosmetics surgery. But because it becomes such a big field, there is a lot of innovation in the field that a you really need to be trained in just specifically that one field, either cosmetic surgery. If you look a --years ago, let us take emergency medicine for instance, most emergency rooms were staffed by doctors who are internal medicine and they where moon lighting.
But as the emergency room become more of an area mortality for people to get medical care, it become such a specialize group of physicians that they actually start fellowships and residency programs that dealt directly with people who come to the ER. And, they become ER or emergency room physicians or emergency medicine, so it becomes a whole specialty that kind of evolves that, what is the side that he was doing. And the same thing has happened, because society is become so hip on looking good, feeling good, performing better.
The whole cosmetic surgery realm has opened up and has expanded and many, many innovations have come out of other specialties. And so what they tried to do is contain that one specific specialty of cosmetic surgery, years ago you have somebody who did breast and they did great breast, but they did not do faces, they did not do noses.
