This first drill is called the soft-tossed fake drill.
It is actually where we are going to soft-tossed the ball to the hitter and let him swing through.

Jake is working on getting his front, lower half of his body started into the swing and trying to use his hips first. Hip rotating first then his upper body and then delivering the bat
(Music Playing)
Just keep your head down with the ball, see the ball all the way in.
This is a good drill to work on technique because it is a non-threatening situation to the hitter and that it is easy to hit the ball as it is tossed to you. And, we call this the soft tossed fake drill because, every once in awhile, I am going to fake the toss to be able to see if he is got his back foot up in beginning to rotate with lower half of his body.
Good, that back hip could rotate just a little bit more on Jake, we are in business.
Ideally, you would like to see line drives, hard ground balls as Jake is providing for us. In this particular drill, ideally, we would like Jake to take 10 swings and then take a break.
Notice that I am not rushing Jake taking my time on making sure he is set on balance and ready to go before I release the next pitch. We want him to work on rhythm, timing, perception, and the proper sequence of the swing.
