I am here to talk to you today about pinch harmonics and I saw right hand technique to be use in guitar playing. Which can really be a cool technique and in effect to use whether be rhythm guitar, lead guitar. Many thing really you can insert them in there and it sounds pretty cool, nice little squeal sound you get out of it.

A few artist like my, I want to listen to especially for pinch harmonics, with Billy Givens of ZZ Top and also Zack Wild, the Black Label Society. Those are the two pinch harmonic masters in my opinion. Basically, were a pinch harmonic is an overtone. That means, that when you hear that squeal, all that really is, is an overtone of the note that you are picking. If you want to know more about the theory in Science of what a pinch harmonic is, look it up on the web and you will find lots of great resources that will give you graphs and excellent descriptions of overtones in harmonics.
I just like to say that there is no real, right, or wrong way to do a pinch harmonic. It is all really in the personal feel and how you feel comfortable doing it. So, I want to show you I like to do pinch harmonics. Now I feel comfortable getting it out and maybe you will learn something from it and you might be able to figure out a comfortable way to do it for yourself.

So, it is just to demonstrate the pinch harmonic you have your regular pick note and then you have your pinch harmonic.

So, this is the way that I like to perform pinch harmonics; usually I will approach the string with a little bit of an angle this way and towards the bridge. What I will do is grip the pick very close to the edges and just barely used this edge of the pick to pick the string. You also might want to caress the string with this side of your thumb after you pick the note.

I have also found of adding a little bit of vibrato with the left hand makes the pinch harmonic sound a little bit better. Also, note that having a good distortion tone on your guitar will help the pinch harmonic really come out and sound good. Also, the pick that you are using plays a large role in pinch harmonics. I like to use the smaller down lab jazz threes, you get a nice good grip on them and you can really grip your fingers close to the edges in order to hit those harmonics. So, the bottom line with pinch harmonic is that everyone is different and everyone might use a different technique to get the pinch harmonics out. All that it really takes is for you to seat down, practice, and just keep working at it in order to find your own way to hit the pinch harmonics.
I hope this video helped a little bit and good luck.
