I cannot play right now. It is too early in the morning. It is only 9:00. I do not usually get up until 11:30. You are probably thinking, “Wow, he is a lazy guy”. It is because I stayed up too late. But I do not have to teach until 3:00 or 3:30. I have never been a morning person.
The second reason is, what if we try to play—now, you need to see this. The chord says that they want me to play this note, this note, and that note, all at the same time. Unless you have are—as you can see, I cannot reach those chord. I can reach these two, I can reach this. (Demonstration)
So, here is the second way you actually use an old chord. You start out here and you roll into the chord, and it actually makes it sound together. So, you can join notes and chords that would normally be too big for your own reach. That is why if you can reach an octave, you can basically play anything because you can just roll the other chords you need.
Like in “Revolutionary” by Chopin. (Demonstration) We have to roll this note and this note. As you can see, that is much bigger than an octave. (Demonstration) It is in the third page of the Revolutionary. See this chord? Look how he ease up on this. (Demonstration) That is what you are supposed to play. As you can see, that is still too big. I cannot reach that chord. (Demonstration)
Can you reach this and that at the same time? No, I cannot, so we roll it. As you can see, there is a rolled symbol there. That is why it is there. The reason the roll is there is probably not to riff back. It could be to add effect, but the main reason, it is there to so that you can reach all the notes. So, that is my little blurb on rolled chords. That is basically it.
I know that this is a pretty short lesson. My website, which I am very excited for, is coming up very soon—March 5th, in about a week and a half or so. The form is basically up now, actually. Everything is going good. On March 5th, I will be releasing a video, so look for that. I will be giving you the link and all the information about my website. Log on sometime on March 5th. I will probably be putting that sometime in the morning, maybe midnight, my time. I live in DC, so we are three hours behind people that are on the East Coast, and I have no idea about other countries because I do not memorize the time zones.
I will probably put it up some time, the tail end of March 5th. So, if you are in another country like Tokyo or something—hey, that is not a country. It is a city—Tokyo in Japan.
As you can see, I am not a morning person. My brain is not functioning. This is fun.
I hope you found that helpful, even though I could barely talk or play. I think I am going back to bed. Go to sleep for another hour or two.
Look for my next video, it will be coming out on March 5th, the other one—I probably will not be posting up another lesson until then, but I might. I need some more ideas. I actually reached the end of where I had drawn up to. I had four or five lessons sketched out, and now I need to sketch up some new ideas.
If I am going to teach more on theory which as you see, I have not being doing is because I lost the white board I had before. I had to get a white board or something. I do not want spend the money for the white board, but I have to.
If I do get a white board or something like that, maybe I will try sketching up some new things to do with music theory like music terms or harmony, possibly. Maybe I will get into some scale writing and stuff like that.
If you guys have some ideas, drop me a line and leave me a message. Remember, I was telling you that I got a lot of e-mail messages. That does not mean that I do not want you to send one. It just means that if I do not reply right away, do not get mad. But I read every single one of them, usually within a day. I have had messages where people tell me things. Five people are asking for this certain thing, or ten people—sometimes a little bit more, sometimes less. But if I think the idea is good, I will do a lesson on it.
Sorry about all this talking. You guys take care.
