Deanna Saracino: I am Deanna Saracino, Vice President of Golden Boot Soccer and we're here today to teach you some soccer skills. We're going to be talking about heading today and there are two different types of headers that we're going to be teaching you. We're going to be talking about the Standard Header and the Glancing Header. Now our players here behind me are going to start working on the Standard Header. Now in order to get power behind your ball, you want to make sure a few key things are in place. You want to make sure that your feet are pointing towards the target and that they're staggered one in front of the other. You also want to make sure your knees are slightly bent and that your arms are by your side for balance.
Now as Kristen tosses the ball to Alley, she's going to try to push her head through the ball to get that power like following through. You want to make sure that the player is hitting the ball and the ball is not hitting the player. Go ahead. You also want to make sure that you keep your eyes open and focus on the target, very good. Now, if you're trying to head towards the goal, it's very important to try to aim towards the goal line, and in this case you want to try to hit the ball on the upper half of the ball so that we're aiming downwards towards the goal line, go ahead.
ow, always remember, when you're trying to get the most power on the ball, you're trying to use your whole body, slightly leaning and arching backwards and pushing through the ball. Heading is a very important technique to acquire, because it has a wide range of uses, especially scoring goals. Now the second type of header that we're going to go over today is called a Glancing Header. Now for a Glancing Header, you want to be able to redirect the ball and the timing and your target are very important.
As you see now, the players are going to redirect the ball to the opposite player by simply twisting their body and connecting with their forehead right before the impact with the ball. Again your timing is extremely important and knowing where your target is. This is extremely useful technique to know especially for finishing crosses to goal. Now we're going to try doing this in a game situation. The Standard Header and the Glancing Header are two different types of heading techniques that you can use towards goal to finish and be more productive in scoring goals.
Tamir Linhart: I hope you had fun. Hope you learned something and I hope you'll be able to use some of the things you learned here in the game, good luck.
