All right folks. Myself and Madagascar over there, the pussy cat, are going to show you how to set up what is known as a two-way active speaker system. So, I got the speakers behind me, all the amps etcetera. Now logically, you would not have everything all over the place like me. But the basic principle of how to plug things in is exactly the same with this system and with any other two-way system. So, I will pause the camera. Hold tight.
First of all is the cab. Then again, there is a bass cab, there is a mid in top and there are your amplifiers. Now very quickly and the top are the crossover. Top unit, crossover, second one down is the actual bass amp that I am going to be using and the bottom one is the mid and top amp. Now very quickly, you would want to put your amplifiers and speakers like that. I just do this just for demonstration purposes. Also, ideally, you will have those speakers a little bit higher. I will show you later on the video how we can set this up in three different ways. This is way number one whereby you got the bass amp on the floor and you move the top on top of the bass amp. But remember, whatever happens, it never in a gig situation, would that demonstration put your amplifier on top of speakers. One main reason, the outer bass, they could actually fall off. Hold tight.
Okay, for anyone looking at that, they think that they did not know what was going on. They think, “Oh my god!” which is fair enough. There are a lot of cables there. And believe it or not, every single one of those cables is needed. Now first of all, there is a crossover. That crossover is a stereo two way or mono three way. Stereo, two-way, bass and treble or mono, three-way, bass, mid and treble. What I have done is that I have gone from the master track which is the mixer, left and right, into left and right with a crossover. I then got one cable from one side of the crossover which is the base, go into one side of the bass amp. I then go to another side, bass going into the other side of the bass amp. And then advise to the mid top, the case that you have here, that puts bass on top. Well, I have there the top or what is known on here which is the high outputs from one side going to another amplifier on one side. I have the top on the other side of the crossover going to the other amplifier.
So, to put it in this basically as follows. Let us say that over here is the right side. Right bass there going to the right bass amp. Right mid high going to right mid high at this amp. Left bass going to left side of bass amp. Left mid top going into the left mid top of mid top amp. Now these amps are power amps, what are known as power amps. This one here can run bass, mid, any frequency that you want it to make. And of course, it can have full range, in other words, I could go straight from the mixer into this straight into a set of speakers. I got full range. Alternatively, when you go into the likes of an active crossover, then that crossover will determine the frequencies that this specific amp will make. It could be high, low, mid, it does not really matter. This one here is slightly more different but I will go into this particular amp in depth in the future video. Then, what we have done is that this one here like I have said is the actual bass amp. Now what we have done here, we got amps of the bass into the bass speaker on one side of the amp. And to the bass on the right side of the amp, you can see the other bass amp which is just around the corner. Mid and top exactly the same after the amplifier here into one side of the mid and top and at the other side and see the other mid and top. And there is one thing that some people do mess up sometimes. If you are going to go right hand side here into the right hand side of the amp through bass, you need them to go right hand side mid top into right hand side of mid top amp. Then, you need to make sure that the bass right, bass left is on bass right, bass left on this particular side. Do not cross them over. Otherwise, you could have right hand bass there and left hand bass over here but then, you could have right hand mid top here and left hand mid top over that side. So, you are actually not going to get a propped up true stereo sound.
Now, there is another way, believe it or not, of setting this up. As follows, what we could do, let us say that these two amplifiers were perfectly identical in every single way. I could go as in this side of the crossover. The right hand side let us say, bass into bass on the right hand side here. I could go on the right hand side top and I could go into that side top. Now, ½ of the amplifier is bass and 1 ½ is top. Then, I have two cables running into one side, base and top. And then, exactly the same applies to this. Left hand bass into one side of the amplifier. The left hand top into the other side of the other side of the amplifier and then the two cables from this particular amplifier would go directly to the other set of speakers. As you can see at the moment, if just pause the camera a second.
