Here is a mystery for you, I have joined these two pieces of wood together but you can not see any nails or screws here or here and I did not do it with glue. How did I do it? I did it with pocket holes. It allows you to disassemble the two pieces of wood and put them together almost an infinite amount of times and in certain situations that can be very handy and it makes an incredibly strong joint.
To create the pocket holes, you just a need a very simple jig, this is called a pocket hole jig. It is a piece of aluminum that has a clamp that holds the wood tied in a position and a special drill bit goes into these very shallow angle holes a prescribed depth right into the piece of wood and that is all you need. It is that simple.
Now, I have all ready showed you how to create a 90-degree angle. Do you think you could use the pocket hole jig to combine two pieces of wood just like this in case you want to make a table top? You bet, let me show you how it is done. Just simply put the piece of wood into the jig and tighten the thumb screw. Go ahead and take your drill bit, slide it into the guide hole and start to drill.
I prefer to use inch and a quarter drive wall screws because number one, they are not too long and number two they got a nice sharp point that allows me to easily screw into the second piece of wood.
Oh yes, another quality installation. Pocket holes, it is the only way to join two pieces of lumber together if you want to take it apart in the future.
