You"ll only get called by a hand that beats you. Your opponent will almost always fold the hands that you can beat and you don't have a chance to save chips should your opponent check a hand that beats you. You will also lose a chance to induce an opponent to bluff.

If you have a medium strength hand and you believe your opponent's hand is even weaker, you'll probably win more money by checking and inducing a bluff. If you have a medium strength hand and you dot have a good read on your opponent, it is almost always the correct play to check if your opponent checks. Save yourself money and make yourself money.
