Jennifer DiDonato: Hello! Welcome to MadeFitTV, I am your host Jennifer DiDonato and this is episode number 31 and as you can see we are not in the gym but I will get to that in just a moment, but just in case you didn't know MadeFitTV is everyone's source for health and fitness information and entertainment. So thanks so much for joining us and today, like I said, we are not in the gym at my house today. We are at someone's house because we are going to touch on a certain type of way to get in shape and get fit. It's the new year and so a lot of people are looking for different alternative to incorporate health and fitness in their life. You have to be fit, you are starting to see the strip cardio videos. So this is a little similar because today guys and gals we are going to be learning about Pole Dance fitness. Take a look. Come on we have got it all for the guys and the girls and today we are talking with Patricia Pelto and she is the owner of Pole Dance Factory, Patricia come on up here. So when was that --
Patricia Pelto: Oh! Yeah. I am doing well.
Jennifer DiDonato: Thanks so much for letting us kind of invade your home with the pole and kind of check out your stuff. Now we are in Westland which is a suburb in Metro Detroit, so its right around where we are located, but with pole dancing it's kind of a big craze for the ladies, actually right?
Patrica Pelto: Oh! Most definitely, most definitely. We initially brought it here approximately three and a half, four years ago and it's just taken storm, everything from Bachelor parties to the classes to just because to weight loss and toning.
Jennifer DiDonato: Well, you are working on a DVD right now, and like I said, you are checking out PoleDanceFactory.com, but with the pole dancing and learning those different techniques, I mean, is there something that also their spouses can get into, and kind of wanting them to, okay go out with your friends, learn it.
Patrica Pelto: Oh! Most definitely. The gentlemen nowadays with your clubs per se to have their own wife take an interest in this and just losing up and realized that all of us, every women in the world has that inner goddess within her.
Jennifer DiDonato: Yeah, yeah and you have never been a professional Pole Dancer.
Patrica Pelto: Never, never in my life.
Jennifer DiDonato: So you just kind of learned it, kind of studied it.
Patrica Pelto: Just picked it up, studied, evaluated and over the years finally devised a system with the pole, with the basic moves emphasizing on a total body workout.
Jennifer DiDonato: Oh! Great, good. And you don't have to be a certain size, right, to be on this.
Patrica Pelto: No, I have had ladies on the pole from 70 pounds all the way up to, well that exceed 300 pounds and I find that even my larger ladies look fantastic on the pole after just learning the first three totally basic moves.
Jennifer DiDonato: And this looks that this is all about it. It's for everyone, this is what we want to do, is make fitness convenient and fun for everybody. So let's get started.
Patrica Pelto: Sure. The first move we teach the lady is the basic walk. We are just going to walk the pole. So you are going to take, you are going to walk, you are going to add those hip rolls, force upon the toes really helps define the calf muscles, the other hand you could draw those lines, play with that hair, let your own personality shine through and have fun with it. Would you like to give that a try?
Jennifer DiDonato: Yeah, I will try, I hope, I mean, that looks good too.
Patrica Pelto: Oh! you look great. And if you have trouble finding those hips, do more of the angulate moving.
Jennifer DiDonato: Oh! That's right, that's right, just angulate.
Patrica Pelto: And have fun, smile, draw those lines.
Jennifer DiDonato: So now why is this important in terms of walking the pole, it is just of warming the crowd up or --
Patrica Pelto: Walking the pole warms you up, helps the ladies release that little bit of intimidation, it's all in you.
Jennifer DiDonato: So now walking, of course, you got to conquer the efforts before you get on to the instincts but what's a typical spin that pretty much anyone can do or --
Patrica Pelto: Okay, with the spins, of course, like I said, we do cater to the heavier lady and a lot of women have trouble getting off of the ground. So we have created a modified fireman that goes like this where there is no leaving the ground. All ladies can do it, it's just a matter of swinging and letting yourself free. Would you like to try the modified fireman?
Jennifer DiDonato: Modified Fireman.
Patrica Pelto: Modified, no feet leaving the ground, just hang on, you can hug the pole too, you can be little more comfort, yeah that's great.
Jennifer DiDonato: So you kind of keep everything in the arms and just kind of let it kind of hang on a bit.
Patrica Pelto: A lot of the pole dancing you will notice that upper body as well as the leg workout because we are on our toes stimulating high heels for that elongates those leg muscles.
Jennifer DiDonato: Oh! Yeah it definitely works the calves, you are right.
Patrica Pelto: Now would you like to try our regular fireman.
Jennifer DiDonato: Yes. The fireman.
Patrica Pelto: Okay, well in the fireman, you are going to do it from a walk, you do need the momentum, you are going to turn and face the pole with two hands, bring your knees up, try not to touch the pole and go for the spin.
Jennifer DiDonato: Now that really works the abs because if you bring --
Patrica Pelto: Oh! Yes most definitely.
Jennifer DiDonato: Yeah, so if you are bringing the knees up, it's really forcing the abs. So then you don't want the legs to touch the pole.
Patrica Pelto: Try not to do that until you develop that upper control and then of course the fireman can lead into the straight leg fireman. You have turned that into the Sit & Spin a little bit, that's actually our next move. (Voice overlap)
Jennifer DiDonato: What is that called?
Patrica Pelto: Sit & Spin.
Jennifer DiDonato: The Sit & Spin.
Patrica Pelto: Yeah you did that beautifully.
Jennifer DiDonato: Well let me try and find it one more time, the fireman, since it's all about control, it's technique.
Patrica Pelto: Definitely.
Jennifer DiDonato: So, exactly, okay.
Patrica Pelto: Yep try it one more time. Try not think about and just have fun with it.
Jennifer DiDonato: Okay, I am not going to think about it.
Patrica Pelto: That was beautiful.
Jennifer DiDonato: (Voice Overlap) by the time I leave I here. Okay, so the next move you are saying it's called Sit & Spin where it's a little bit--
Patrica Pelto: Yep. The Sit & Spin is like the fireman but you are actually just kind of sitting and spinning as you come gently around the pole.
Jennifer DiDonato: Alright let's try this.
Patrica Pelto: The way I do spins, they may look totally different -- Oh! That was beautiful, I liked that. That was great.
Jennifer DiDonato: You know, yeah, you really have to think about control, you have got the spinning, and then just lie down.
Patricia Pelto: Later on it comes as simple as driving a car. You just kind of do it, be able to talk, laugh do the whole thing.
Jennifer DiDonato: Because it helps, it helps when you are not thinking about the technicalities of it all.
Patrica Pelto: Okay, you want another spin.
Jennifer DiDonato: Yes.
Patrica Pelto: Okay now this spin is the butterfly, unlike the fireman where you bring your knees up to the pole, you got to actually push the pelvis back, butterfly at the knee and touch your toes behind you.
Jennifer DiDonato: Okay.
Patrica Pelto: And this is our butterfly spin.
Jennifer DiDonato: Alright.
Patrica Pelto: I lost a little grip on that one but that's okay, let me wipe this for you. It is important to not have a slippery pole.
Jennifer DiDonato: Oh! Yeah, yeah I am sure, you know when everyone is touching the slider you don't want to fly off of it. Okay, let's see here.
Patrica Pelto: Now butterfly. Beautiful (Voice Overlap) I like that one. You are doing great. You want to do it again?
Jennifer DiDonato: Yes sure let me try it one more time. Well
